Nvidia's new "Project Digits" is a mini PC that's 1,000 times more powerful than a laptop and can fit in your bag.
Dubbed a "desktop supercomputer," Project Digits delivers 1 petaFLOP of power, making it a game-changer for AI developers, researchers, and students.
This mini PC runs AI models that typically require massive data centers. Nvidia's CEO unveiled it at CES 2025, showcasing its compact yet powerful design.
Powered by the Nvidia GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, Project Digits combines a Grace processor and Blackwell graphics card for seamless data processing.
The device packs 128GB memory and 4TB SSD storage, offering exceptional speed and capacity for AI research and advanced computing tasks.
To compare, the world's fastest supercomputers deliver 1,000 petaFLOPS, making them 1 million times more powerful than laptops. Project Digits delivers 1 petaFLOP.
Despite being less powerful than top-tier supercomputers, Project Digits is far more powerful than typical desktops or laptops, and it’s portable!
It enables researchers in robotics, autonomous systems, and computer vision to fine-tune and scale solutions faster, according to AI experts.
Researchers can use Project Digits to run large AI models, like ChatGPT, which use up to 200 billion parameters for text generation tasks.
Linking two Project Digits devices allows researchers to work with 405 billion parameters, exceeding GPT-3.5's 175 billion!
The device is expected to launch in May for around $3,000. Nvidia is currently taking registrations from interested buyers.
Although the final design isn’t revealed, Nvidia promises it will fit on a desk or in a bag—perfect for mobile researchers and developers.
This innovation highlights how supercomputing power is becoming more accessible, pushing boundaries for AI and data science on smaller scales.
With Project Digits, Nvidia makes it easier than ever to harness AI power without relying on massive cloud-based data centers.
The future of portable, powerful AI tech is here, and it’s compact enough to carry—revolutionizing the way we approach computing tasks.
