Grandma its pop! he's coming, look. That is what my granddaughter is saying when she saw her pop coming down the dock, she was so excited that I snapped this picture of her.

My granddaughter lives on the west coast and I live on the east coast. She texted me last night and said she would be here this morning and wanted to take me and her mom to breakfast. She told me a few days ago she made a Vet appointment for her dog for today but the breakfast was new to me because I found out at 8:30 this morning when I saw the text that I was to be there at 9 but still did not know where I was to be. I texted her and asked where and she replied "Call mom". Why does the younger generation want to text? Why can't they pick up their phone and call?

She was my first granddaughter and I worried she would not know me because of the distance between our homes but as she grew and stayed with us I knew then she would know who we were but was a little hurt seeing the bond between her and her Pop, maybe jealous is a better word than hurt.

She loved going on the boat with us and was always under her Pop's watchful eye.

When he cleaned fish she had to be close, watching everything he did and she went everywhere he went. Asking a zillion questions and him trying to answer as many as he could.

On the boat she helped fill the measuring cups with baby clams, sometimes she was too helpful but she always wanted to help more.

As she grew she started hanging more with me, this girl can catch fish., On this day she caught more than her brother. There was no doubt about the bond we had and still have.

One day I blinked and my little girl is now a young woman all grown up and living on her own, she had applied to a school in Richmond Virginia. A few weeks ago she flew up there and picked out an apartment to live in and while she was there she got to see snow for the first time. That is something her Pop has never seen. She is going to be too far away for me to be happy about her move, and she will be taking her dog that I have had for 3 years.

Today after she got back from the Vet she gave the dog a bath and brushed her teeth, she bought toothpaste and a toothbrush for dogs. I told her I would not be brushing the dog's teeth, and she said it was ok, she would do it. She bought a spray for the yard and treated it, even though we told her that Pop had treated it a few weeks ago she said it would not hurt to treat it again. The Vet said the dog had a few fleas but they were not terrible on her so what we have been doing must be working.

I miss days like this when I can spend time with her. It is never long enough she has to work tomorrow so had to drive back today. For Mother's Day, she wants to rent a house on the beach over there and me and her Mom go over and spend a few days with her before she has to leave in June.

I !LUV reading your family stories. Makes me realize how small a family I have. Plus with my parents gone, I don't have a lot of stories to tell.

I had a large family, sadly it is not as large as it once was. I hope you enjoy your day off.

Beautiful story you told. I love the fact that she calls her father pop. Such a great bond you had. I wished I got to share such with dad or even granny before they passed. Keep adoring her and the great times you people had will be ever cherished by you.
