I have always heard that in England, people eat fish and chips. I thought the chips were potato chips and I wondered if they ate chips with everything but I did an AI search and this is what it said Fish and chips is a classic British takeaway dish featuring a piece of white fish (like cod or haddock) dipped in batter and deep-fried until crispy, served with thick-cut fried potatoes, known as "chips" (American fries). It's a beloved comfort food, often seasoned with salt and malt vinegar, and sometimes accompanied by mushy peas or tartar sauce, symbolizing British culinary tradition.
The fish sounds good, and I love French fries, but they can keep whatever mushy peas are, and I do not think I would like my fish seasoned with malt vinegar, I do not even know what that is.
We are having fish and roe tonight. Most might not agree, but if you are from old time Florida, the best meal combo with fish is fish, roe, grits, pork and beans, and hush puppies. The only seasoning you should use on fish is salt and pepper.
My husband's family is not from here, they came from Illinois in 1955. So his mother never cooked the traditional fish meal. I do not think he ever ate grits while he was young, maybe not until he met me.
He fried the fish and roe. I like what we call red roe, it is the eggs, he likes the white roe, which is the male fish sperm, the thought of it is yuck. I do not know why but most men like it over the red roe, and most women like the red. Now time to go eat.
