I have been wanting to try catching ladyfish since the last day we fished, I think it was last Friday or Saturday, for the life of me, I can not remember. On our way back to the boat ramp, I came across schools of glass minnows. I was in eight feet of water, and they had my fishfinder blocked out, so it read 2 foot of water. We saw fish striking in them, and I thought they were jacks, but they looked odd for them. I rigged a pole up for trolling, and my sister caught a ladyfish. It was late so we went on to the ramp. I have been wanting to try catching them, but I had to wait for the weather to settle down.

My sister did not want to go, so I went by myself. When I got east of the railroad bridge and saw no birds, I knew they were gone. I trolled all the way to the US1 bridge and never got a bite.

I trolled up the C-54 canal to see if any jacks were up there. I kept changing rigs and changing them again. Finally, I found one that they would bite, but it had a huge hook, and they are one pound jacks. I only got three jacks to the boat. The sportfishermen were a pain in the ass, too. After trolling to the spillway and halfway back, I caught the first jack, but before I could make a circle, someone anchored where I caught it. The next time I got one in the boat, and was able to make another circle and got another one, but that was my last circle. Another boat saw me and moved to where I caught them. The next circle, I came very close to their boat, it had at least 6 people on it, and not one of them would look at me. They knew what they did.

See what's in the picture? You can't overlook that, but they did. I do not know how they did not see it, unless they thought it was a log. The canal was also full of seacows, aka manatees. I had to keep an eye out for them. I surely did not want to drag my hook across one of them. That would have caused excitement.
