5 minute freewrite 2965 prompt the authority

This is my post for #freewriters 2965 prompt the authority hosted by @mariannewest

For the last week, I have been saying that I needed to read about setting waypoints in the fish finder. A waypoint is a way to find the same spot you fished in the day before. I wanted to put Long Point in it so when we have fog, I would be able to find our way there.

Today was the day I needed it. Leaving the creek was not hard because it is not very wide, and it was easy to follow the shoreline. We made it to the powerlines when my husband called and asked if I knew how to set the waypoint. I told him no, I didn't. He walked me through how to set it up and told me if it did not have a track to follow from yesterday, to follow the compass at 30 degrees.

Once we got out to the Indian River, I had nothing to follow but the compass, I could see no channel markers or islands, and had to cross the river. I took it slow, my sister baited hooks as we went.
I knew when we crossed the channel because I saw the water depth go to ten feet, then I saw the cluster of crab traps east of the channel, so I knew we were on the right path. While my sister was sitting on the bow baiting hooks, a pompano jumped in the boat and almost hit her, then the pompano flew everywhere. We anchored and a spinner shark jumped not far from the boat. We sat there a while but did not catch anything. I was thinking that in a fog you could get away with anything on the river, the authority aka, the Marine Patrol would not be able to see you. Only if I had a net!!!

I knew we were on the edge of Long Point flatt because we were in three feet of water, but I still could not see the shorline that should be only 300 feet away from us.

I knew it was at Long Point, but had no idea where at Long Point. I was blindly idling around when I saw a boat, it was my husband, then I saw three other boats. I found them.

After the fog lifted, it was a beautiful day. Today, my husband had the bad luck, he caught 5 that weighed 10 pounds, we had 10 that weighed 25 pounds.

I find it easy to get turned around in the fog. Glad it burned off and you had some nice sunshine.
There was no telling where I would have ended up if my husband hadn't called and told me my fish finder has a compass.
