This is my post for #freewriters 2941 prompt on the brink of failure hosted by @mariannewest

This prompt fits right in with the day we had. We started out at the Big Flatt, running along and a pompano hit the side of the boat. We anchored and only caught blowfish and catfish.

We headed toward the inlet, but before we got there I wanted to look at coconut, there was nothing there. Next we went across the south bar, middle bank, and the north bar. I text my husband and he said there was fish at Long Point, but they won't bite.

At Long Point we skipped one and anchored, caught nothing. We moved all around and still nothing. Later my husband texted he was off of Cambells Pocket and caught two, but he had been there a long time.

We take off for Cambells Pocket, I see my husband reeling in a fish, and it is a pompano. We anchor north of him, then moved move to the north, and moved offshore. We had not caught one.

We head back to the inlet and skip one off the tip of the south bar, the pickers ate our bait as soon as it hit bottom. By this time of day I knew we were on the brink of failure, but I was not giving up.

We went to the islands on the west shore, when we got to Mays Island and had not seen anything, I told my sister we will try just anchoring. We did and left the poles out for about 5 minutes and checked the bait, they were all gone.

I told her the next anchoring will be like poker, we are all in. It will be our last anchoring, we will either catch there and go home a winner, or we will catch nothing and lose, we lost.

Today we never caught a fish of any type that we could keep. My husband caught 19 pounds. When we got home we compared gear and the only difference was, he put on all new rigs. My rigs are old and have a pasty look to them, where his are clear.

We are going to put in up the creek tomorrow so on that long idle speed out of it, we will put on all new rigs.
