5 minute freewrite 2916 prompt characteristically quiet

Today we did what fishermen do when they do not fish. We work on gear. There will always be work that needs done, either making new rigs, taking apart reels that quit working, or something on the boat needs attention. I have a bilge pump, but I have never had an automatic switch for it. When the boat needed pumping, I held a wire to the battery. But now that my sister is fishing with me, my husband figured with two of us in the boat, a switch was a good idea.

Hurricane season is about over and I am glad to say it was an un-characteristically quiet season, we never had a tropical storm hit my area.

I think winter is going to make up for it, we have bad weather coming and will not be able to fish until Wednesday, and that will be the only day for the week. They said it will be the coldest for this time of year since 1979, it will be in the 40s Tuesday. It is in the 80s today. I wanted to fish today because of this, but my sister was beat and did not want to go.

I was thinking today about how telling someone what they needed to do pompano fishing on land is so different than when they are on the boat trying to do all the things you need to do right. I told my sister it is like throwing her in the lions den. She understands when I yell at her, it is because she is messing up and going to get hooked or hurt. She needs to slow down and be fast at the same time. When she has a fish in the boat, if she takes the time to turn the reel handle to tighten the line, then grab the line far enough from the top hook, now she can dehook the fish. I told her that again today and she told me that she had the top hook come close to her face two times. We use circle hooks, I am not sure how to get one of them out of a person. A regular hook you can get out with a piece of string.
