5 minute freewrite 2897 prompt grant me a wish
This is my post for #freewriters 2897 prompt grant me a wish hosted by @mariannewest
No matter where you are, if you place a conch-shaped seashell to your ear, you can hear the ocean. I have always wondered why it has the sound of the sea. I can see it if you are standing on the beach, but you would think that in other places, it would pick up on sounds from that area.
This was the day I found out why you only hear the ocean.
When I tie my leader line onto the swivel, it leaves a small piece of line we call a tag. This small clam grabbed the tag on my line and refused to let go.
I cut the tag to release it as it spit the cut piece out and started yelling at me, "what are you doing? Do you know how long it took me to get a secure bite on your line?"
I had to sit down. The little clam started talking as I sat there staring in disbelief. It told me how all of the genies had been trapped in conch shells, and the sounds of crashing waves would be heard in all seashells of that type to cover their cries for help.
The little clam said he was getting weak and did not have much time left. It said it still had a lot to say to me, so it talked and talked and talked, and my thoughts tuned him out and I was thinking other things. It had told me for the last 277 years it has been trying to talk to the ones who are above the ocean, and I was the first to listen. I felt bad because I did not listen to the entire story. It kept talking.
I was wondering if I had fallen and hit my head, dumbfounded by a talking clam. I wanted to listen, but because of the thoughts that kept creeping back in my head, it was hard to catch every word.
Next, the little clam said, "now you know what you need to do, and it took its last breath." My mind is scrambling, and I am thinking about what it was saying when I started thinking of something else and lost what it was saying. Did I just miss my chance for a genie to grant me a wish because I was not paying attention to every word being said?
