5 minute freewrite 2861 prompt throat
This is my post for #freewriters 2861 prompt throat hosted by @mariannewst
My husband fished today, but only caught 12 head of trout that weighed 22 pounds. He said it was a rough day, but he caught plenty of bait to even fish with tomorrow.
He fished Grant today and said the snook were plentiful, but were either too big or too small. They give us a 4 inch slot to keep one and only one per boat a day. They have to be between 28 and 32 inches. September is the last month we can keep one until next summer.
He got two in the boat, one was too small and the other was too big. He said he had two big ones that ran for the trees along the island shore and broke his line off on them.
Grant is full of all kinds of fish, he said, pogies were flipping, mullet jumping, plenty of bait, and silver mullet. There were two commercial guys cast netting croakers to sell to bait shops. Our seagrass has started coming back, but I do not know if that has anything to do with so many fish being back or the time of year, but it is nice to see, or in my case, hear about it.
With all the fish being there, sharks are there, too. He lost three rigs to them. You do not catch them, they run line off your reel until it breaks. When we hook one, we will try to hold the spool to try to break the line before they run it all off. It burns your hand trying to hold it.
At the fish house, my husband said one fisherman has caught over 600 pounds of jacks, he said they are catching them in the inlet. My husband said he does not think he could hold up to catch them, they are one of the hardest fish to reel in, they fight hard, and are hard on a person's old body to reel in. I used to love catching them. The jacks they are catching are like the ones in the photo, 2 to 4 pounds.
Smaller jacks have a white meat, but once they get bigger, their meat gets a reddish tint, and if you want to eat one this size, as soon as you put it in the boat, you should slit its throat to bleed it, or it will have a strong taste.
I have been taking a picture of this pineapple every Friday and was looking forward to having one get ripe this winter. I moved all the other pineapple plants to an area where they would not get water from the sprinklers because we have been getting rain about every day. I did not want to put this one with the others because they are outside our fenced in area, and I thought animals would get the fruit, the others do not have fruit on them. Big mistake!
Yesterday, I noticed it was not looking good, and I went to move it further from the sprinkler, and two leaves fell off. I tugged on two more, and they came out. I did not try any more of them, but I am sure they will pull out, too. I do not know what the part that holds the pineapple is called, it might be called a stem, but for the sake of this prompt, I will call it the throat of the pineapple. I tugged on it, and it is still attached. I think it will pull out in the next few days.
I pulled it out to the yard where the water can not get to it, I should have done this in the first place. It really breaks my heart to lose one.
photos are mine
I love the way you described the ways of fishing various fish, jacks and sharks are the hardest to fish.
