5 minute freewrite 2838 prompt such a creep
This is my post for #freewriters 2838 prompt such a creep hosted by @mariannewest
This prompt reminds me of a time long ago. My youngest was not in school yet, so some days after the others were in school, I would take her to the beach and we would walk looking for shells or whatever washed up. I think she was between 2 and 3 years old.
We did not go to the popular beaches. The one we went to, you used to be able to drive to the dune line, and it had a flow well so we could wash with fresh water.
On this day, there was an elderly gentleman on the beach, and he walked with us for about 2 miles. I forgot what we talked about, but it was all polite conversation. He gave me no reason to be concerned.
I had walked as far as I wanted and told the old man goodbye. We started walking back to the car, and didn't take many steps when my daughter said, "Mommy, that man does not have any clothes on." I swung her around by one arm and told her not to look back. All the way back to the car, she wanted to know why the man took his clothes off, over and over, like a 2 year old would do. I forgot what I told her, but all I could think was he is such a creep, plus a few other thoughts. I was so upset because he could have waited until we were further away from him.
This was from a different walk on the beach. From a distance, this looked like a turtle was on its back, but as I got closer, it looked like someone had butchered a turtle. If someone did that, I did not want to be anywhere near it.
It looked odd to be a turtle, but still resembled one. I saw what looked like strings coming from the inside and wondered what it was. I now see stitching around the edge, that is when I tried to flip it. It was too heavy, it was a piece of a tire from some type of heavy equipment. I could not lift it, but could see the deep tread, like on a tractor tire, on the other side.
photos are mine
Even from the photo there it looked like a turtle shell to me too.
I know, I was worried it was one because if it needed to be flipped back, I would not have the strength to flip it, and if it was killed and butchered, I did not want to be in the middle of a felony investigation.
Years ago, I found a tracking device that they had attached to a manatee, it was almost covered in sand on the shoreline. I threw it on the table in the fish house. It was there for 2 weeks. Then a truck with about 6 antennas stopped out front. He wanted to know why their manatee had not left this dock. Different people would show up and they grilled me for a week, in person and being recorded over the phone, on where I found it, how deep it was buried, and if it was in the same condition as it is now. They also wanted to know why I brought it to the fish house. It was crazy.
Wow, it must have been a telling experience for you. If you had not picked up the Manatee all those grills would have been avoided. It's nice you avoided this one too.
Thank you.
Both stories are very interesting and leave many questions.
