5 minute freewrite 2744 prompt I don’t belong
This is my post for #freewriters 2744 prompt I don't belong hosted by @mariannewest
I do not know how my sister and I are going to make any money fishing. I know how fishing goes, it is either feast or famine. Our first day was a snack, we had 28 pounds, nowhere near a feast, but our last three fishing days have for sure been famine. We fished one day for one trout, the next time for ten pounds, and today for six pounds. My husband fished one day for one trout, the next he had 49, that day was a feast for him, and today for six trout. He is ready to quit, too.
I feel like I don't belong on the river anymore, my back hurts all day, my hand hurts holding the rod, and if I do catch a fish, it hurts so bad holding the rod that I can barely reel it in. The deal with my sister fishing with me was for me to drive the boat and her to do everything else, but I found out, she can not row the boat, and she has trouble hooking the fish, so I fish, too. Also, she is aggravating, she wears an earbud and plays music, I do not mind that because I can not hear it, but she hums to the music, and when I say something to her, she does not hear me. That is my rant for today.
Look closely at the opening in the trees, where you can see a bend in the tree trunks, you will see blue fishing line. If you follow the line, you will see something in the next photo that is sickening.
A dead bird, this is what happens when a bird grabs your line, and instead of taking the time to work it to your boat and unhook it, you break the line off. The bird flies to a tree to roost for the night, and the fishing line that is trailing behind it gets tangled in the trees. The bird can not fly off, and unless someone helps it, it sits there and starves to death.
Take a good close look. It breaks my heart to see this, and the only reason I took this picture was that if this happens to you, you will know what will happen if you do not try to get the hook from the bird. I have seen so many people hook a bird and deliberately break the line because they do not want to fool with it.

You're right. Some humans are scum. They forget:
"The righteous man cares even for the beasts."
"I will destroy them that destroy the earth."
Those aren't quotes from me. That's from the Maker of every bird, Who sees this nonsense and Who is making a record even of stuff like this... meanwhile, if I see a hooked bird in San Francisco, I'll do my best.
Thank you for trying to help the hooked birds. I have a box of fishing lures that my husband and I have taken out of them. It is easier for us to do because we have fish to wave so they come close enough for us to grab them. If it was not for that I do not know how you would catch them. Fishermen can reel them in if they are careful but most do not want to take the time to mess with them.
I like the quote, HE knows.
