My plans to own a personal business in fashion, farming, and more entrepreneurial ventures

In response to the July inleo prompt for today, I will dive into this topic with all passion, sharing with the community my personal experiences and tips. I also believe that there will be a whole lot for me to learn from everyone here, and guidance from members will be equally honored. First, I was a bit confused about how to present my topic, as this is a broad and important topic, but I ended up with those two above, as they best describe and relate to me.

The plans to start and own a business can be both difficult and easy for anyone, depending on the angle from which we are looking at it. I have been on this journey for a while and have an idea of some of the challenges one can encounter that will make this journey difficult, but nonetheless, if you are fortunate enough to get the right information and connect with the right people, starting a business will be an easy journey for you.


Enterpreneurs have played some vital roles in the economies of developing countries by creating jobs, thereby reducing the rate of unemployment, generating new innovations, and generating tax and revenue that boost the economies of every nation.
In countries where there are no jobs, entrepreneurship is the escape route through which people can create jobs for themselves, earn a living, and pursue some purpose and career for their lives. Hence, this is an important topic for both individuals and countries in general.


Here are some of the basic things to consider for a business startup.

  • Business idea or product
  • Capital/asset requirement
  • Business location
  • Labor, skills needed, and staff
  • Business registration (name, logo, and license)
  • Market survey
    This is not an inclusive list and may vary based on other criteria, but generally, you will get some quality ideas by following these rules.

I believe that the very first and most important item on the list is the business idea. A business idea can come in the form of creating a new product on the market, an improvement of existing products, or a solution to problems that can be sold to make money. One has to have a clear vision of what they intend to do in the market and, if possible, be prepared, well trained, and equipped with everything related to their business idea.


It's only when this is in place that one can look out for ways to generate the capital needed for our business ventures, making progress along the list mentioned above.
Today I would like to just dive a little into my own experience of a business startup as it relates to the list so that we can see a clear picture of this writeup so far from a practical point of view.

I had a business idea in both fashion and agriculture. Working on both at the same time.
For the fashion venture, I was able to learn the skill after years of training and was also very fortunate to have acquired my working tools along the way.
Those working tools are my capital and asset requirements for the job, and if I were to open a fashion store today, I would have almost all the working tools needed.

The labor requirements for my business are minimal for a startup since I am engaging myself as the working staff. This can change over time as business expands and if I need more stylists to help out with the sewing work.

Getting a brand name has been concluded. While the business registration requires some amount and processes, which I am yet delaying because of funds and engagement in other activities that are more capital intensive and need urgent attention,.


Market survey and business location are easy in this present age, as the use of technology has made it easy for anyone to establish their business in any location and still get quality patronage from creating an online network and delivery procedure for their goods.
One can have an office or production center even in their homes, make clothes, and have them delivered to their clients in any part of the world. Business location was formally a hindrance to the net profit of a business, but that is no longer the case.

Having said all of these regarding my fashion career so far, I believe that I have about 70 requirements to start my business. The fashion market is really competitive, and regardless of all this progress so far, one must stay updated on the latest fashion trends and be sure that they can deliver quality jobs to their clients. Maybe this is where upcoming fashion entrepreneurs can have some challenges. Working to meet the needed standard of the fashion trend. Withdraw standards and quality; you can only deliver a mediocre job, and potential customers will be limited.

My Farming/Agropreneur Ventures

This got kicked off this year, and I can say that it did make more progress compared to the sewing jobs. I didn't have that much passion for sewing and had to succumb to learning fashion design as my first approach to ending joblessness after school. After giving it my best shot, you can see how that is still hanging and yet to expand into a proper business.

Farming is different for me, and with years of experience in growing crops, All I needed was to get the capital and collaborate with some investors, and we kicked off the commercial farming venture this year. One thing I have learned that is very important is to start off with the little I have. Even if it were an acre of land your capital can cover, get started. With favorable weather conditions, adequate monitoring, and following of the processes, timely profit is guaranteed, and subsequent years anyone can hop for advancement.

You can either choose to do the labor yourself or hire laborers. There are some tasks that you need to do, and for others, you may need to employ people. I have long wanted to register a brand name for my farming business, and I'm really glad to be treading on this path.

All the updates on my investment in farming this year, the experience gained, and what people can learn are all included in my homestead blog. Following them will be a good guide for anyone who hopes to go into agriculture.

Lastly I will advise that upcoming enterpreneurs can center their business ideas around their passions and what they love to do most, it makes room for easier progress and helps such business idea to get to its peak of progress. Since I loved farming I can see how that has outperformed my fashion career journey. Create connections with business people of like minds and probably a partnership that can be of positive impact and a standard online and offline marketing strategy can take your business to the world right from your home(since most people now work from home maximizing their abode for businesses).

I agree with you. I too am an entrepreneur in the world of sewing. Sometimes we can take risks, but it is necessary to commit ourselves to the project from the beginning and if we have to do it ourselves, we should do it and not be afraid of failure because there will come times when we may not do so well. Hello @monica-ene, having a clear idea of the area in which we want to undertake is very important because it facilitates the market study and the strategies that we can use to make it known and attract customers; I wish you success in the agricultural enterprise and soon you can register your brand.

The sewing business has its ups and downs, customers sometimes assume that it is a simple job and they can pay what they consider, being the opposite, it involves challenges and investment of time.
