Hello Hive

Today makes the 5th day I have planted some vegetables seeds in my garden and guess what

The veggies have germinates already. It has taking them only 5days to germinate rather than the 7days I was expecting. And for a fact that I have been very lucky this time around that there has not been heavy rain which has flushed away the earlier planted seeds.

Three different species of veggies were earlier planted aside the tomatoes and scotch bonnet I had planted yesterday.

The African spinach germinated pretty well and almost 99% of the planted seeds germinated.

The Lagos spinach didn't all germinate and I can say that only 80% of it germinated here

While the Jute mallow had only 60% of the planted seed geminated.

Just like you all know, it is often a challenge to get quality seeds for planting that is one of the reasons I have left a portion from last session veggies to see if it can produce some seeds for me.

Having gotten this much luck with the germinated seeds, another challenge is being able to take care of this garden to the point of maximum growth from animal predators and pest. During last session gardening I had some lizard feast on the first stage of the germinating veggies like this.

They are up the leaves and stems. That led to massive losses before the eventually pestilence invasion that destroyed the remaining veggies. I had only poor harvest after all the hard work. This affected only the veggies, the Jute mallow was totally exempted from all these menace.

Having a garden gave me a routine of going to check on my garden first thing every morning as my first task of the day after prayer. Either to wet the garden on check on the progress of my garden.

Guess what I found today.

These barely germinted veggies have become food for snails.
My very first time of catching snails feasting on my veggies. The veggies are barely a week old and these snails feasting on them is not a good sign. The stems of the veggies will die off if these snails are left withing.
I have picked about 5snail of this size. This is a new discovery for me. Snails feeding on leaves and more specially my veggies will destroy these veggies even before they grow. I was expecting to kick away some lizards but found snails instead. Thank goodness I have observed this, it only means that I have to watch out against lizards and continually pick up snails off these veggies for it to grow and not get destroyed.

After that I have gotten water and wet the beds since the ground is dried and that ended my work in the garden for this morning. Hence one important thing we must do for our garden is to protect it from both animal and pest invasion if not there will be nothing to harvest here after all the stress and labour here.
