Poultry farming and how we unfortunately lost the female rabbit|| Possible cause of death is unknown
Hello Hive
Good morning fellow hiver, it's almost midday already and it seems like I will be having a sunny day today. The sun has been relatively scare this past days that I even began to miss it because of the cold. We have to seek for blankets every night. The weather is cold but much preferable compared to the heat
We woke up this morning to our dead rabbit, we can't seem to figure out what could have possibly killed the rabbit.
We started raising these rabbit the same time as we collected the chicken/birds but while the birds were flourishing in growth I don't seem to understand the rabbits.
Its our first time going into poultry farming. The journey with the chickens seem to be smooth as we know a bit about what their feeds and feeding habits should be like, but for the rabbits we have been feeding them with only what was recommended.
They have never for once exhausted the feeds we often poured in their plates hence the possible cause of death of our rabbit cant be related to hunger. Although when we picked up the animal this morning it has lost some weight compared to the male one yet alive.
Prior to this morning we have noticed that it was showing sign of weakness and slept more often than usual, being a very shy animal it is often difficult to detect this. They usually run and hide at the extreme end of the cage with any step of an approaching human.
This isn't a local rabbit hence we can't and have never feed them with local rabbits foods, all their feeds have been bought from the Agric stores. Local rabbits around us have been feeding with potato leaves from my farm and garden. We recently found out that local species of rabbits enjoy a good meal from potato leaves. My neighbor upon realizing that has long engaged in feeding her rabbits with these potato leaves and ever since the rabbit has been alive and active.
There are equally other vegetables leaves/grasses that rabbits enjoy.
Although the local rabbits can be raised too with the food feed to the Agric rabbits specie. This makes local animals also mimic the rapid growth of their corresponding agricultural species whenever they are feed with such feeds.
If not hunger or malnutrition as there was sufficient food for them, what could have caused the excessive weight loss and eventually death is still unknown to us. I plan to make some enquiries upon my next visit to the store to purchase animals food. Perhaps they also react to certain weather or other factors we are yet to know of. The remaining make rabbit has been alone ever since. We have bought them together hoping that they fertilize each other and expand their kind here.
