Apoyo incondicional para la familia.

Hace 17 años, mi cuñado me presentó a su novia, que poco después se convirtió en parte de nuestra familia al casarse. Durante dos años, vivimos aventuras juntos mientras ellos no tenían hijos. Ellos residen en Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. A medida que nos conocíamos mejor, nuestra amistad fue creciendo y ahora somos grandes amigas. A pesar de la distancia, siempre mantuvimos contacto y nos apoyamos mutuamente.

Seventeen years ago, my brother-in-law introduced me to his girlfriend, who soon after became part of our family when she married. For two years, we lived adventures together while they were childless. They reside in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela. As we got to know each other better, our friendship grew and now we are great friends. Despite the distance, we always kept in touch and supported each other.

Un día, toda la familia estaba reunida en casa y, como siempre, nuestro cuñado nos dio la sorpresa de llegar sin avisarnos. Era carnavales y lo mejor de esta sorpresa fue que no era una sola, sino dos noticias: nos informaron que seríamos tíos y abuelos, ya que mi concuñada estaba embarazada. La felicidad fue inmensa y disfrutamos mucho de aquellos carnavales juntos.

Pero un día antes de que regresaran a su hogar, mi concuñada comenzó a sangrar. Me preocupé y le dije a mi cuñado para llevarla de emergencia a mi ginecólogo. Al observarla, su diagnóstico fue el que presentía que había una amenaza de aborto. Así que el ginecólogo me dio las indicaciones para cuidar a mi concuñada en casa hasta que le dieron permiso para viajar. Fue un momento difícil, pero estuvimos todos por ella.

One day, the whole family was gathered at home and, as usual, our brother-in-law gave us the surprise of arriving unannounced. It was Carnival and the best thing about this surprise was that it was not just one, but two pieces of news: we were informed that we would be uncles and grandparents, since my sister-in-law was pregnant. The happiness was immense and we enjoyed a lot those carnivals together.

But one day before they returned home, my sister-in-law began to bleed. I got worried and told my brother-in-law to take her to my gynecologist as an emergency. Upon observing her, his diagnosis was that I sensed a threatened miscarriage. So the gynecologist gave me the instructions to take care of my sister-in-law at home until she was given permission to travel. It was a difficult time, but we were all there for her.

Mi concuñada solo cuenta con nosotros como familia, ya que sus padres fallecieron y sus hermanos viven en el extranjero. Cuando nos llamaron para avisarnos de la fecha de su cesárea, nos organizamos todos para viajar y apoyarlos en este momento importante. Solo mi suegra y yo pudimos viajar al principio, y recuerdo que estaba pasando por un tratamiento psiquiátrico, pero a pesar de ello logré estar con ella y cuidar a su hermosa bebé recién nacida. A los tres días, mi esposo, mis dos hijos y mi cuñado con su esposa e hijo viajaron para conocer a la bebé y bautizarla antes de volver a nuestro hogar. Fue un momento muy especial para todos nosotros.

My sister-in-law only counts on us as family, since her parents passed away and her siblings live abroad. When they called us to let us know the date of her cesarean section, we all organized to travel and support them in this important moment. Only my mother-in-law and I were able to travel at first, and I remember that she was going through psychiatric treatment, but despite this I managed to be with her and take care of her beautiful newborn baby. Within three days, my husband, my two sons and my brother-in-law with his wife and son traveled to meet the baby and baptize her before returning to our home. It was a very special moment for all of us.

Hace algunas semanas, viajamos a Puerto Ordaz para resolver problemas personales. Sin embargo, tuvimos que interrumpir todo estos cuando la bebé comenzó a vomitar sin parar en la madrugada. De inmediato, mi concuñada la llevó a la clínica, donde su pediatra la hospitalizó debido a la deshidratación y le realizaron exámenes que arrojo como diagnóstico una infección bacteriana. Cómo familia, nos tocó enfrentar muchas situaciones y apoyarnos, como siempre hemos hecho. Sin embargo, surgió un problema: mi concuñada, que es abogada independiente al igual que mi cuñado, tenía una audiencia importante programada y no debía faltar.

A few weeks ago, we traveled to Puerto Ordaz to solve personal problems. However, we had to interrupt all these when the baby started vomiting non-stop in the early morning. Immediately, my sister-in-law took her to the clinic, where her pediatrician hospitalized her due to dehydration and performed tests that diagnosed a bacterial infection. As a family, we had to face many situations and support each other, as we have always done. However, a problem arose: my sister-in-law, who is an independent lawyer like my brother-in-law, had an important hearing scheduled and should not miss it.

Justamente ese día, la darían de alta a mediodía. Así que cuadramos en casa y, como siempre, me ofrecí para cuidarla mientras ella resolvía su situación. Ella se sintió muy feliz porque sabía que estaba en buenas manos. Mi hermosa Micaela estaba muy traumatizada por las agujas que le habían puesto. Cada vez que alguien entraba, decía: "No me puyen más". Mi niña estaba muy traumatizada y muy decaída así que la tuve que dormir entre mis brazos, acurrucadita. A las tres horas, llegó su pediatra para indicar su alta y darnos las indicaciones del tratamiento para seguir en casa, incluyendo medicamentos y una dieta saludable. Fue un momento de gran alivio.

Just that day, she would be discharged at noon. So we arranged to meet at home and, as always, I offered to take care of her while she sorted out her situation. She was very happy because she knew she was in good hands. My beautiful Micaela was very traumatized by the needles that had been put in her. Every time someone would come in, she would say, "Don't poke me anymore." My little girl was very traumatized and very down so I had to put her to sleep in my arms, cuddled up. After three hours, her pediatrician arrived to discharge her and give us the instructions for treatment to follow at home, including medication and a healthy diet. It was a moment of great relief.

Al retirarle la vía de la manito de Micaela comenzó a llorar porque le dolía mucho. Había recibido antibióticos, potasio e hidratación durante su hospitalización. Mientras mi cuñado la cargaba, aproveché para recoger todo y nos regresamos a casa más tranquilos con la esperanza de que al estar en casa la recuperación seria rápida. Y así fue: empezó a comer, a jugar con sus juguetes y ahora está bastante mejor gracias al amor y cuidados permanentes que recibió. Aquí en Venezuela, nuestros ahijados son como nuestros hijos y es el afecto y amor que le brindamos que la ha ayudado a recuperarse. La familia es todo para nosotros.

When the IV was removed from Micaela's hand, she began to cry because it hurt so much. She had received antibiotics, potassium and hydration during her hospitalization. While my brother-in-law was holding her, I took the opportunity to pick up everything and we returned home calmer, hoping that being at home, her recovery would be fast. And so it was: she started to eat, to play with her toys and now she is doing much better thanks to the love and permanent care she received. Here in Venezuela, our godchildren are like our children and it is the affection and love we give her that has helped her to recover. Family is everything to us.
