Hive Exploration, January 8th 2025

Hey y'all! I appreciate all the positive feedback on the posts I wrote about exploring Hive yesterday and the day before. Today I consolidated some liquidity pools to buy a new game!

Picked up some BXT

I moved a bit of cloud mining revenue in to get some BXT, a token I'd missed before. It's the token associated with BeeSwap, a bridge between Hive and Hive Engien, and an interface for Hive Engine's market and liquidity pools. I normally use uSwap, but that isn't really an informed choice, it's just, the interface I found first.

As an interface, I really appreciate being able to see the liquidity providers of different tokens, and could see myself treating that as a leaderboard to climb, for some of my favorite pools, like SWAP.HIVE:SWAP.BTC.

A few details from the BXT whitepaper seem out of date - the only pool that rewards BXT is the SWAP.HIVE:BXT pool - which is where I put the BXT I picked up. I'll probably stake the rewards I get from that, to see what kind of rewards I get from staked BXT - though with my 0.002% of the liquidity pool, I imagine it will be a while before I see anything happen with it.

So why bother at all? Honestly, I might forget about BeeSwap and BXT if I don't have it there in my wallet to remind me. And since I tend to purchase tokens in small chunks over time, I find it easier to answer "should I get some more this go around?" than "should I buy into that?"

…Typing that out, I'm realizing I'm kind of treating the Hive Engine tokens like a kid taking their allowance to the candy store, and deciding what they want to get that day. "Oh, there's a discount on EDSi tokens today!" I'll think as I scroll TribalDex, and stop to take a look at the order book.

Maybe as my stake in various things grows I'll be inclined to take it more seriously, but honestly, I doubt it. It can also be hard to take things seriously when one of the main bridges for the sidechain is on a subdomain of an NFT game.

dCity Questions

Speaking of dCity: Can someone tell me where in the interface I go to buy cards from the game engine? I've found the player market, but the docs mention being able to purchase minted cards… How?

I want to like dCity, but the UI is honestly confusing for me, and I think maybe something is wonky with the game's economy, at the moment: taxes are 100%, so the daily payouts of SIM that should happen for a functioning city… don't. Or maybe I'm just that bad at understanding the UI and game premise. It's the only game on Hive I've found that doesn't have a big buy-in to get started, though, which means I'd love to recommend it to friends.

I'm still earning SIM each day, by keeping mine pooled with SWAP.HIVE, but it'll take about 100 days to get enough to buy a Basic Home, at this rate.

Crownrend

In actual Hive gaming news, Crownrend was announced by @deathwing yesterday. From the screenshots, it looked a bit like Terracore, which I already play and enjoy, so I was interested in grabbing it. But, I didn't have the liquid HIVE ready to go, so I set to figuring out how I'd do it.

My liquid HIVE comes from holding EDSi, SIM, staking GAMER, and when the signals are there (they haven't been recently), spread farming HIVE/HBD. I have most of my posts set to payout 100% in HIVE power, so I can't rely on post revenue for HBD to buy the HIVE.

I could have used the ~1000 sats-a-day I'm directing into my wallet, but it'd take a few days at least to get enough.

I could have unstaked and sold some DBOND. Unstaking would have taken a day, and there's currently an unfilled order for them at 0.99 HIVE, so it'd be a loss to sell on the market.

That left me with closing some liquidity positions. I'd have the SWAP.HIVE ready to bridge back to HIVE, right now.

There'd be impermanent loss, kind of - because of the downtrend in many of the tokens, I'd be getting less SWAP.HIVE than I put in, and more of its pair. But I'm actually participating in liquidity pooling to take advantage of exactly that situation, to build my holdings of side-chain tokens over time.

So, I pulled SWAP.HIVE from pools with WAIV, CENT, LEO, SWAP.GIFU, and BBH, traded some HBD for HIVE, and bought Crownrend! I have a full post about the game over here, but in short: I like it!

The WAIV, CENT, and LEO I pulled from liquidity pools, I staked and delegated to the relevant LOLZ curation account, to get more LOLZ in that daily payout. I'm looking now and actually, I've just crossed the threshold to call the bot once a day - meaning there are two tips I can give out now, that and BBH!

Other Games

Playing Crownrend reminded me to check in on the other Hive games I've bought. I still haven't really read about dCrops, but I commissioned my next game in Rise of the Pixels, and claimed the PXL I've gotten for staking and pooling PXL.

General Hive Market Stuff

It looks like the boom in trade volume on Hive Engine has slowed. The pegged and backed tokens are coming back toward their pegs.

YIELD, released yesterday, was the most-traded non-swap, non-Splinterlands token over the past 24 hours, selling more than 750 tokens at 1 HIVE each. Meanwhile LEO slipped another chunk, while a lot of the other projects tokens slowed their descent, or even came up from their recent lows. WORKERBEE didn't see much volume, but the price rose, bringing BEE with it. Though one thing that's been interesting to me is how various tokens from the same project often don't travel in price together: BRO and LGN, for example.

Soon we'll probably see folk buying back into Hive Engine projects, and with HIVE at a higher value and more money in Hive, we might see the market cap for some projects raise up.

This'll mean projects have an incentive, right now, to ramp up their posting and other marketing for their tokens. Be sure to try and understand what projects actually do, when you see some big new plan announced.
