Here's a comparative breakdown of ME/CFS across three paradigms:

FrameworkCauseMechanismTreatment Focus
Mainstream MedicineUnknown; possibly viral trigger, immune dysfunction, mitochondrial issues, neuroinflammation (CDC, NIH)Post-exertional malaise (PEM), chronic fatigue >6 months, multi-system dysregulation; no cure, diagnosis by exclusionSymptom management: pacing, graded activity, cognitive behavioral therapy, treating comorbidities
Terrain TheoryToxic internal environment; weakened "terrain" from poor nutrition, toxins, stress, compromised detox pathways (Terrain Theory overview)Body's inability to detoxify and maintain homeostasis due to cellular toxicity, mineral imbalances, microbial overgrowth in compromised tissueRestore terrain: detox protocols, nutritional optimization, gut healing, reduce environmental toxins, strengthen vitality
German New Medicine (GNM)Unresolved biological conflict shock (DHS); likely self-devaluation conflict or territorial loss affecting brain relays (GNM 5 Laws)Conflict-active phase drains energy; healing phase brings fatigue/inflammation as body repairs; chronic relapse = unresolved psyche-brain-organ loopIdentify and resolve the original conflict shock; support natural healing phase; avoid conflict recurrence

Key Distinction: Mainstream sees ME/CFS as a disease of unknown origin; Terrain Theory views it as systemic toxicity/depletion; GNM frames it as a meaningful biological response to unresolved emotional trauma.

Seeing this made me wonder if perhaps you or someone you know might have this condition. Or maybe you are just curious.

If so, you might be interested in the theories of Jack Kruse. He is a dentist and neurosurgeon turned "biophysicist" with some really novel ideas about diseases like this.

He is pretty out there (and "abrasive"), but you seem willing to entertain the unconventional. No offence meant! 😉

It is a deep rabbit hole but fascinating!

Thanks for the heads up, I will check out his work!

In a nutshell he believes that sunlight exposure along with a dark night cures many ills and justifies fairly well with science.

cool cool! #askleo Summarize Dr. Jack Kruse's work and theories on diseases (don't give me mainstream disclaimers).

Kruse's core thesis: circadian misalignment from artificial light and darkness disrupts mitochondrial function and cellular signaling, driving chronic disease. He argues natural sunlight exposure (especially early morning) and true darkness at night reset your circadian clock, optimize hormone production (cortisol, melatonin), and restore metabolic health—essentially treating the root cause rather than symptoms.
