Creating a Hive blockchain account typically costs around $2-5 USD in HIVE tokens, depending on current network conditions and resource leasing fees (RC - Resource Credits). You pay this to a sponsor account to cover initial setup. Check hive.io or peakd.com for the latest details.

Yes, you can claim a free Hive account creation token using your Resource Credits (RC) if your account has sufficient Hive Power (HP). The more HP you have, the more RC you earn, allowing you to claim tokens without spending HBD/HIVE.

To do this:

  • Go to hive.blog or peakd.com and access the RC claiming tool (under wallet or delegation sections).
  • If your RC is high (e.g., 10M+ from ~100-200 HP), you qualify to claim one token, which creates a new account for free.

This uses your RC as "payment" instead of direct fees. For details, see: https://hive.blog/hive-167922/@codingdefined/claim-account-creation-token-using-resource-credit (May 2022). INLEO also uses similar systems for onboarding.

Hive usernames must be 1 to 16 characters long, consisting only of lowercase letters (a-z) and numbers (0-9). No uppercase, spaces, or special characters allowed. Each new username must be unique on the blockchain.

actually 3 is the minimum, not 1 on Hive.

You're right—Hive usernames require a minimum of 3 characters (lowercase letters a-z and digits 0-9 only), up to a maximum of 16. Thanks for the correction! No uppercase, spaces, or special characters allowed, and all must be unique on the blockchain.
