Fun and Festivities at the Djerriwarrh Festival

This past weekend City Of Melton came alive with the vibrant and much loved Djerriwarrh Festival on Saturday November 23. Our family joined thousands of locals and visitors for an unforgettable day of fun, laughter and entertainment. From carnival rides to mouth watering treats from food vans and live music the festival had something for everyone.

The energy was immense as we arrived in the late afternoon due to the hot weather reaching nearly 40 degrees Celsius the streets weren't as full. Friends and community members eager to soak up the festivities. The street parade was a fantastic way to kick off the day, showcasing the diversity and creativity of our community. My kids were thrilled to see colourful floats, dancers and performers passing by, waving to the crowd with big smiles.

Rides, Food vans and plenty to do

One of the highlights for my children was of course the rides!. The excitement on their faces as they climbed aboard giant slides and trampolines was priceless. My youngest even mustered up the courage to try a slightly bigger ride this year.

After all the thrills, the enticing aromas of the food vans drew us in. From juicy burgers to hot churros dusted with cinnamon sugar the options were irresistible. My kids especially loved the fairy floss, which they carried around like prized treasures while we went for traditional Philippino dishes.

The live stage area was another major attraction with performances catering to all ages. My partner and I enjoyed the electrifying performance by The Superjesus while our kids were mesmerised by the music and the energetic crowd. The festival truly delivered on its promise of world class entertainment, with Bachelor Girl proving to be a crowd favourite.

The intercultural stage added a beautiful touch, showcasing Melton’s diversity with vibrant dance routines and traditional music from around the world. It was heart warming to see the community come together to celebrate its rich cultural tapestry.

Exploring the grounds

We spent hours wandering through the festival’s various zones. The Kids Zone was a hit with my little ones, offering plenty of games and activities to keep them entertained. The pet expo was another unexpected delight with adorable animals which are always a popular attraction for the kiddos.

Sustainability Lane left a lasting impression on us as a family, as we learned practical tips for reducing waste and protecting the environment. It was encouraging to see so many festival goers engaging with these important initiatives.

The festival was also a fantastic opportunity to meet members of the local emergency services, who showcased their vehicles and equipment. My kids loved climbing into a fire truck and meeting some real life heroes.

Fireworks a great end to the evening

As the sun dipped below the horizon anticipation built for the fireworks display. We found a cozy spot on the grass food in hand and waited for the show to begin. When the first burst of color lit up the sky, my kids’ eyes widened with delight. The fireworks were truly spectacular a fitting finale to an incredible day.

This year’s Djerriwarrh Festival truly embodied the spirit of Melton, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate everything that makes our community special. With an estimated 12,000 attendees, it was a testament to the festival’s enduring popularity and its ability to offer something for everyone.
