Genus Conosia

This particular insect is extremely abundant in my area, and it can easily be found in plantations or along the edge of the forest. I used to be quite mistaken about this insect; from a distance, it looks remarkably like a mosquito—bearing a resemblance in both shape and color. However, after looking up information on Google, I discovered that it is actually a crane fly. I came across this fly while my family and I were sitting in the small hut in front of our house; it had landed quietly on the wooden platform. While its appearance is indeed very similar to that of a mosquito, one way to distinguish the two is by looking at the head: this fly lacks the needle-like proboscis that mosquitoes use to pierce the skin and suck blood. Upon spotting it, I immediately tried to take a picture; I opted to use my mobile phone camera since I had forgotten to bring my macro lens.
