My garden journal: Corn harvest

Harvest season is passing away here in my locality. But because I planted lately, that's why am harvesting by this time of the year. Now, let me tell you people how the work went today, including all the things I harvested.

As I went to my big garden of 2 plots of land, I checked on my corn🌽 and look an behold, they're riped for harvest.

While carrying out the work, I found something that amazed me. I planted all the corn same time and same day. But, some are due, other ones overdue while some are just starting their journey to maturity.

As I gave it a thought, I found out or recalled what could be the cause. Yes, on the very day I went to market, I bought and planted 2 types of maize 🌽 in that garden. Why? I did it to know the best one to plant during late planting season. Today, I found my answer and am happy. The one that is known as Bende (This type of corn is popularly known as Bende here because, according to history, it originated from the tribe known as Bende here in IBO land) From now on, its the best.

This type of corn is soft and produces within a twinkle of an eye. Hahaha, it takes like 2-3 months duration from planting to harvesting. While the other type known as Nwa-nkpa takes about 4 months. And this specie is too strong. Having seen the two species of corn I planted, let's see how the work of harvesting went.

Since some are still progressing to maturity, I selected the ones due for harvesting, leaving the small ones behind.

After selecting, I made sure I cut down all their stick. Why? If I should leave them standing, thieves will also enter the farm following same pattern. That's why I applied caution so that it won't be possible for them to harvest the remaining ones.

After cutting off all stocks, my garden's beauty came out. The cassava and other items i planted in that garden must be happy because of fresh air they must have been missing for months. Lolz

After harvesting, I sold one bag of corn, while I ate some and also share some with my neighbors.

conclusion

It's good to have a garden. It's benefits exceeds imaginations. Money, food and joy are all its fruitage. As long as there is life, and I have the space, I can't live without planting a garden each year.
