2020 Montserrat 1 oz Silver Oriole Coin.

The Montserrat oriole is the national bird for this small island nation so it is fitting that they put it's image on a coin.

Since 2018 the Scottsdale Mint has been producing coins for the EC8(Eastern Caribean 8) encompassing 8 Caribean Island groups in the ECCB (Eastern Caribean Central Bank) who governs currency for these Island Countries. Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Commonwealth of Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and Montserrat.

Montserrat (/ˌmɒntsəˈræt/ MONT-sə-RAT) is a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It is part of the Leeward Islands, the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles chain of the West Indies. Montserrat is about 16 km (10 mi) long and 11 km (7 mi) wide, with roughly 40 km (25 mi) of coastline.[5] It is nicknamed "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" both for its resemblance to coastal Ireland and for the Irish ancestry of many of its inhabitants. Montserrat is the only non-fully sovereign full member of the Caribbean Community and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States.

The obverse side freatures a frosted center with a side view of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by a laurel wreath. The shiny outer rim is inscribed with EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK on the top, QUEEN ELIZABETH II on the bottom, .999 SILVER on the left and TWO DOLLARS on the right. This is the standard design for all of the EC8 series coins and was created by Ian Rank-Broadley.

The Reverse features a proof like finish with a Montserrat oriole standing on a branch in the center. The center background has the image of Soufrière Hills volcano, a volcano that was previously dormant until 1995. Just above the oriole is the year 2020 and the outer rim is inscribed with MONTSERRAT on the top and MONTSERRAT ORIOLE on the bottom set to the right a little.

Nice coin! I was living in the Caribbean when that volcano blew, fortunately not on that particular island! Scottsdale mint makes some really cool stuff, nice pick and keep on stacking!

From what I understand the volcano destroyed a good bit of the island, I wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere near it.

Scottsdale does do some great work.

Whoever makes the mold or template for those coins is a very good artist. Glad you were able to get another nice coin for your collection.

There are many artist that make the designs of coins all over the world.
The actual stamp is made at each mint that the coins come from.
It's pretty impressive when you see all the detail in some of the designs.

Thank you Michael for sharing another beautiful coin from the EC8 collection 2020. It is so interesting that the island of Monserrat is Irish. This is really cool. Monserrat has a volcano that is dormant right now I believe.

I guess the Irish picked this island to be their tropical paradise at the time when the British were claming so many of the other islands.

I think the valcano is dormant right now but has the possiblity to be active at any time. I don't think they even allow people on that side of the island.

Hi Michael. Yes, the British grabbed that island. It is a dormant volcano for sure. I live near Mt. Rainier in Washington State but not too close. It could blow when ever it wants to but is sleeping now. Nice chatting with you and the coin is beautiful! @maddogmike !BBH !CTP
