Netflix just dropped this shark movie called Thrash that I saw at work well on the road today, it is not your regular Jaws knock off, it is more like a full on survival situation where everything falls apart in about five minutes, the shark looks genuinely terrifying and not like the cheap CGI garbage we usually get from these types of movies, the whole thing is set in a flooded city and that setting alone adds so much to the dread because there is nowhere to run when the streets are underwater, I was not expecting to feel this locked in but it actually works, if watching people fight to stay alive in the worst possible conditions is your thing then this one needs to go to the top of your list tonight. Hulu has this new time travel comedy called Mike and Nick and Alice and it actually looks like it figured out how to dodge all the usual problems that sink that genre, time travel stories are notoriously hard to pull off without turning into a confusing mess that loses the audience halfway through but this one seems way more focused on the comedy and the characters than on explaining the mechanics of it all, I love when a show does not disappear up its own ass trying to be clever, this feels like a dope addition to the Hulu lineup and I am definitely checking it out because funny sci fi that does not take itself too seriously is something streaming needs way more of.
