Further details about the tariff announcement were not immediately clear. A White House official declined to answer CNBCās questions about the presidentās social media post.
The apparent effort by Trump to economically isolate Iran comes as the oil-rich Middle Eastern country struggles to suppress an ongoing swell of massive anti-government protests.
Dozens of those protesters have reportedly been killed in recent weeks; Trump has threatened to take military action against Iran if the killings continue.

Australia Bans Social Media Accounts for Minors
A new law took effect in Australia on Tuesday that bans anyone under 16 from having a social media account on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, X (formerly Twitter), Twitch, Reddit, and Threads.
Platforms that violate the law face fines of up to AU$49.5 million, or about US$33 million.
All listed platforms, except X, had confirmed by Tuesday they would comply with the ban, according to a report in The Guardian
. The owner and executive chairman of X, Elon Musk, called the law in a tweet āa backdoor way to control access to the Internet by all Australians.ā
Update Dec. 10, 2025: In a statement provided to TechNewsWorld by spokesperson Joanna Stevens, Meta said it has removed access to Instagram, Threads and Facebook for teens who it understands to be under 16
āOngoing compliance with the law will be a multi-layered process that we will continue to refine,ā it explained.
āWhile weāre committed to meeting our legal obligations, weāre already seeing some of the concerns come to light previously raised by experts, youth groups, and many parents who believe that blanket bans are not the solution,ā it continued.

Venezuela says 100 killed in U.S. military operation that captured Maduro
More than 100 people were killed during the U.S. military operation in Venezuela that captured NicolĆ”s Maduro and his wife, the countryās Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said Wednesday.
It was the first time a Venezuelan government official publicly provided a death toll from the operation, as additional details emerged about the mission, which U.S. President Donald Trump described as āperfectly executed.ā

Two U.S. sources told the outlet that Flores was struck in the head during the raid.
Cuba revealed on Monday that 32 of its citizens were killed during the operation, adding that those individuals were carrying out missions for Cubaās armed forces and interior ministry. The statement was posted by Cubaās presidential office
Special operations forces from multiple service branches and more than 150 military aircraft were involved in the capture of Maduro.
Seven U.S. service members were injured during the military operation, a Pentagon official told MS Now on Wednesday.
Two of the seven are still recovering, while five have recovered from their injuries sustained in the operation dubbed āAbsolute Resolve.ā

A new study reports that taking 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 daily significantly reduced both the likelihood of acute respiratory infections and their duration in adults with suboptimal vitamin D levels
Recent studies also shows that 2000 IU is not enough at all. Most people recommend 10k to 20k IU depending where you live and how much sun exposure you have.
I've seen mixed advice on vitamin D doses too - 2000 IU works for some, but yeah, higher like 10k might be needed if you're low on sun. Haven't tested my levels yet though
