For our neural networks with 13,000 parameters, the gradient acts as a steering guide, helping navigate the complex landscape of optimal weight configurations.
Moreover, the strength of each component of the gradient indicates how significant an adjustment to any given weight will be towards reducing the overall error. This highlights that some connections within the neural network affect predictions far more than others, a critical insight into the significance of specific weights.
The versatile method enabling this adjustment is known as backpropagation. Through this process, the network computes how each adjustment to weights and biases influences the overall network performance, iteratively refining the model's accuracy and generalization capabilities.
Performance and Limitations
After training, the neural network exhibits an impressive ability to classify new, unseen images—with initial setups achieving around 96% accuracy. While this is a commendable starting point, further refinements can potentially elevate performance closer to 98%. However, this effective classification isn’t necessarily indicative of a deep understanding of the patterns involved in digit forms.
Curiously, an analysis of the weights reveals that neurons in the hidden layers do not capture expected features, such as edges or distinctive patterns. Instead, the weights may appear nearly random or noisy, indicating that while the network is operationally efficient at classification, it does not intuitively recognize what it is classifying. This underscores a fundamental limitation—the network, despite its performance, does not learn to "understand" the constructs of its input data in a human-like capacity.
Throughout the training process, the network is incentivized to be confident in its predictions. When a random image is introduced, the model often responds with a specific classification rather than exhibiting uncertainty, a situation that raises questions about its internal learning mechanisms and comprehension of diverse inputs.

The Journey of Chocolate: From Ancient Use to Modern Delicacy
Chocolate, a beloved delicacy around the globe, has a rich history dating back to as early as 1750 BC. Ancient civilizations revered chocolate not just for taste but also for its medicinal properties and spiritual significance. Today, chocolate has become a worldwide sensation, with businesses shipping around 3 million tons globally each year. But how did this delectable treat become a staple in the diets and cultures of so many?
The story of chocolate begins in the vast landscapes of Africa, which was once home to the Maya civilization. The Maya were the first to unlock the secrets of the cacao tree, thanks largely to their unique geographical location. Cacao trees thrive under specific conditions—requirement of temperatures around 25°C and humidity levels exceeding 80%. Such environments can predominantly be found in regions located along the equator, particularly where the Mayans had settled.
To this day, a significant portion of the world's cacao supply is sourced from these regions. What’s fascinating is that the methods of cacao harvesting have remained largely unchanged since the era of the Mayans. Cacao pods do not simply drop to the ground; instead, they require careful manual harvesting. Workers meticulously cut the pods by hand, a laborious task that continues with the manual extraction of the cacao beans from the sticky white pulp that covers them—far from the chocolate we know today.
Once the beans are extracted, they enter an essential stage: fermentation. The beans and their enveloping pulp are placed in fermentation boxes covered with banana leaves, where they are kept for a duration of 3 to 9 days. This process eliminates unwanted bacteria and the white pulp, transforming the beans through a natural chemical reaction that gives them their iconic brown color and rich flavor.
After fermentation, the cacao beans undergo drying under the sun to reduce moisture and inhibit mold growth, further enhancing their flavor profile. Once dried, the beans embark on their journey to factories worldwide, where quality assurance officers inspect them for color and consistency, ensuring they meet industry standards.
Arriving at the factory, cacao beans are subjected to a roasting process, conducted first on screens and then in revolving cylinders with hot air blown through them. This stage lasts from 30 minutes to two hours, dramatically reducing the beans’ moisture content from 7% to about 1%. During roasting, a chemical reaction called the Maillard reaction occurs, where over 300 compounds interact, leading to the rich flavors that we associate with chocolate.
Once roasted, the cacao beans are processed to separate the cacao nibs, the edible part, from the outer shell or husk. This is achieved via a machine called the winnower, which vibrates the beans to shake off the husks, which are blown away, leaving the nibs ready for the next step.
The cacao nibs are then ground into a paste that resembles a thick syrup, termed "chocolate liquor." Surprisingly, this liquified form resembles alcohol more than any chocolate treat. If the goal is to produce cocoa powder, the chocolate liquor may be treated with an alkaline solution to darken its color and mellow its flavor. Following this, a significant amount of cocoa butter is extracted, leaving behind a solid material known as pressed cake, which is then ground to produce cocoa powder.
The extracted cocoa butter, however, is not discarded; it is a vital ingredient in chocolate confectionery. It is combined with chocolate liquor in a process known as "conching," which creates the smooth texture typical of chocolate.
In a pivotal moment for the chocolate industry, Swiss chocolatier Daniel Peter introduced milk chocolate in 1875 by blending the powdered milk developed by Henry Nestlé with chocolate liquor. This innovation marked the beginning of a new era in chocolate production, allowing for a variety of flavors and textures to emerge.
The Final Touch: Tempering and Molding
Tempering the chocolate is a critical process that alters the cocoa crystals’ structure to ensure a smooth composition throughout. This process involves carefully heating and cooling the chocolate, resulting in the desired "snap" when broken. Once tempered, the chocolate is poured into molds, where it undergoes a final inspection for air bubbles and imperfections before being wrapped in protective foil or paper packaging.
Today, the chocolate industry is a multibillion-dollar empire, with annual revenues reaching upwards of $50 billion. The allure of chocolate remains as strong as ever, captivating taste buds around the globe. As we indulge in this favorite treat, it’s essential to appreciate the intricate processes and rich history that have brought chocolate from the ancient Mayan civilization to modern-day confectionery.
In conclusion, chocolate’s journey from its roots in the tropical climates of ancient civilizations to our contemporary enjoyment is a testament to its timeless appeal and the dedicated craftsmanship behind its production. Chocolate, much like fine wine, embodies the labor, history, and passion that highlight its esteemed status in cultures worldwide.
The intricate process of coffee production begins at the farms, where dedicated farmers harvest coffee cherries—small, round berries that encompass the precious coffee beans. To produce just one pound of coffee beans, an astounding 1,500 coffee cherries must be harvested. This labor-intensive process marks the beginning of a complex journey that coffee takes before it reaches your cup.
Coffee production is predominantly concentrated in two regions: Brazil and Vietnam. The journey of a coffee cherry starts with clusters of fragrant white flowers, reminiscent of jasmine. Following pollination, these flowers shed and give way to small green berries, which typically take six to eleven months to ripen into vibrant red cherries—indicating they are ready for harvesting.
Large-scale coffee farms often utilize mechanized harvesters to enhance efficiency. These advanced machines are designed with gentle, vibrating fingers that delicately dislodge only the ripe cherries from their branches. Although this technique significantly speeds up the harvesting process, it poses a challenge: ripe and unripe cherries can get mixed together, which is why farmers often resort to manual handpicking for specialty coffee.
Once harvested, coffee cherries need to be sorted to ensure only the ripest cherries move forward in the process. One effective method is water flotation sorting, where ripe cherries sink due to their higher sugar and moisture content, while unripe cherries float. This simple and cost-effective technique not only sorts cherries but also eliminates defective fruits.
After sorting, ripe cherries undergo wet processing at a wet mill. This process entails feeding the cherries into pulping machines, which remove their outer skins, leaving the beans encased in a mucilage layer. To eliminate this mucilage, the beans are fermented in tanks for approximately 14 to 16 hours, after which they are cleaned of remaining residue. Through careful washing processes and sorting, only the highest quality beans are retained.
The beans are then transferred to drying beds, allowing for airflow circulation, which prevents mold formation and ensures even drying. Workers regularly turn the beans to maintain uniform moisture levels, aiming for a final moisture content of about 11 to 12%. This drying phase can take anywhere from one to two weeks depending on weather conditions and requires meticulous attention to avoid spoilage or off-flavors in the final product.
Once properly dried, the coffee beans are hulled to remove the protective parchment layer. Modern hulling machines efficiently perform this task, ensuring that only whole, high-quality beans move forward in the processing line. These green coffee beans are then inspected and stored in 60 kg jute bags, labeled with their origin and grading details, ready for shipment to coffee factories worldwide.
Roasting: The Transformative Step
Upon arrival at the coffee factories, green beans undergo a meticulous sorting process, separating them by size. Once sorted, the transformation into coffee begins with roasting. This essential step occurs in four main phases: drying, browning, development, and cooling. Each of these stages is crucial for developing the beans’ unique flavors and aromas.
During roasting, the beans initially lose moisture, then the Maillard reaction occurs, contributing to their color and flavor complexity. The first crack signifies the expansion and transformation of the beans, followed by the development phase where complex aroma compounds are generated. Carefully monitored temperatures ensure that beans are not scorched or over-roasted, as this could negatively impact their flavor profile.
From Roasted Beans to Instant Coffee
After roasting, the beans are cooled quickly to halt the cooking process. They are then ground into a fine powder and subjected to an extraction process for large-scale coffee production. This stage allows water to extract soluble compounds from the ground coffee, providing rich flavors without introducing bitterness.
For instant coffee, techniques such as spray drying and freeze drying are used. For novels and so I prefer digital verison, but for like real studying stuff, I rather have physical book.
Just easier to mark, note stuff and such.
For studies, it is really good to read and take notes and mark the important parts.

Part of those are probably not real users but also Hive governance is a bit advanced. In some communities I manage there are some people who been here for over a year and still don't know their away around proposals
Well, the supporters are mainly old accounts.
What percentage of newbies should be capable of voting for such proposal in your opinion?
If I'm not mistaken, the mass of the accounts is hardly two months old and in that case I would guess it would be a very, very low number. I'm not one to take anecdotal evidence but if I remember correctly, in my own case, it took me many months to even figure out there was a proposal system.
