LOH 265 // Second Chance Is Rare To Come By
There are moments in life when we make decisions based on what feels right at the time but only to realize later that those decisions had a lasting impact on our lives. If I could get a second chance at something, it would definitely be the job offer I rejected a few years ago just because I wanted to travel abroad, an offer that seemed like a dream come true, but one I turned down in favor of traveling abroad. Back then, I was naive and also I was eager for adventure, new experiences, and the freedom that comes with seeing the world. What I didn’t anticipate was that a global pandemic would change everything, COVID-19 set my clock back.

Pixabay At the time, I was offered a great job opportunity that could have jumpstarted my career. The role was exactly what I had been working toward, and it was everything anybody would hoped for professionally. But, despite how promising the offer was, I had an overwhelming desire to travel. I had always dreamed of experiencing life in different countries, meeting new people, and immersing myself in other cultures and maybe find a ground there.
I turned down the job, thinking that the world would still be there if I was to come back. I think life revolve around me and many opportunities will still come, little did I know that I was in my own fantasy. But then, as we all know, the pandemic hit. International borders closed, travel became impossible, and those months of wanderlust turned into a long stretch of uncertainty. I found myself stuck, not able to travel, and not able to work either. What seemed like a temporary detour became a much longer wait, and now, years later, I’m still trying to find my footing again.
Looking back, I can’t help but wonder how different things might have been if I had accepted that job. Would I have climbed the career ladder by now? Would I have gained more professional experience and been in a better position? Or maybe, I would have still found myself in the same place eventually, but at least I would have had a solid foundation to stand on. Instead, I have had to restart, adapt, and rethink my career path from scratch but can seem to start from anywhere.
The thing is, life doesn’t give us a chance to go back and make those decisions again. That job offer is gone, and the chance to travel the way I envisioned has come and gone as well. But, what I’ve realized is that we can never truly predict how things will unfold. While my decision didn’t lead to the exciting life I imagined, it’s been a time of reflection and growth. And even though I’m still job hunting and trying to regain some stability, I’ve learned that sometimes life has a way of throwing us curveballs that we don’t see coming.
If I could go back, I would probably make a different decision—but not because I regret my choice to travel. What I regret is that I didn’t anticipate the timing and the scale of change that the pandemic would bring. I would have taken the job and still found a way to travel later. There’s a lesson in that: sometimes the things we think we want, the things we’re willing to let go of for the sake of freedom and experience, don’t always turn out the way we imagine.
Ultimately, though, I can’t dwell on the past. The job may no longer be an option, but new opportunities will always come. The key is to keep moving forward, adjusting as life unfolds, and remaining open to whatever opportunities might come my way next. Maybe the second chance isn’t about revisiting the past, but about finding the courage to move forward with a new perspective.
Thanks for checking on my blog and have a wonderful day
