El testigo @la-colmena está de vuelta | Witness @la-colmena is back
¡Hola, comunidad de Hive!
Hay decisiones que se toman con la cabeza, pero que duelen en el corazón. Hace unos meses, nos vimos en la penosa necesidad de anunciar el cese de operaciones del testigo @la-colmena. No fue una decisión sencilla, pero en aquel momento, la combinación de un ranking que no terminaba de despegar y los costos elevados del servidor donde operábamos, hacían que mantener el nodo fuera económicamente insostenible.
Sentíamos que debíamos hacer una pausa, pero en el fondo, el deseo de seguir contribuyendo a la seguridad y descentralización de la red nunca se apagó. Hoy, nos llena de alegría decir que esa pausa ha terminado: @la-colmena está de vuelta.
Hello, Hive community!
Some decisions are made with the head but hurt the heart. A few months ago, we found ourselves in the painful position of announcing the cessation of operations for the @la-colmena witness. It was not an easy choice, but at that time, a combination of a stagnant ranking and high server costs made maintaining the node economically unsustainable.
We felt we had to pause, but deep down, the desire to continue contributing to the security and decentralization of the network never faded. Today, we are thrilled to announce that the pause is over: @la-colmena is back.
El camino de regreso: Solidaridad y aprendizaje
El motor de este regreso fue, sin duda, la comunidad. Poco después del cierre, @yonnathang del testigo @hispapro fue el primero en acercarse. Me habló de opciones más económicas y eficientes, sembrando la semilla de que volver era posible. Ese gesto fue el catalizador para empezar a investigar alternativas que nos permitieran ser sostenibles sin sacrificar la calidad técnica.
En este proceso de búsqueda y reconfiguración, el apoyo de grandes amigos y expertos fue fundamental. Quiero agradecer profundamente a @eddiespino, del testigo @aliento, por su guía y apoyo permanente, y a @rishi556, @balaz y @gtg, cuya orientación, conocimientos técnicos y disposición para orientarme en la implementación del nuevo servidor fueron la brújula necesaria para no perderme en el mar de configuraciones de Hive.
The Road Back: Solidarity and Learning
The engine behind this comeback was, without a doubt, the community. Shortly after the shutdown, @yonnathang from the @hispapro witness was the first to reach out. He spoke to me about more affordable and efficient options, planting the seed that a return was possible. That gesture was the catalyst to begin researching alternatives that would allow us to be sustainable without sacrificing technical quality.
In this process of search and reconfiguration, the support of great friends and experts was fundamental. I want to deeply thank @eddiespino from the @aliento witness for his guidance and permanent support, as well as @rishi556, @balaz, and @gtg, whose technical knowledge and willingness to guide me through the new server implementation were the necessary compass to navigate the sea of Hive configurations.
La IA como compañera de estudios
Una parte fascinante de este retorno fue el proceso de aprendizaje. Durante muchos días intenté adaptar el testigo a requerimientos mínimos optimizados, y para ello, eché mano de la Inteligencia Artificial. Pasé horas "debatiendo" con la IA sobre optimización de recursos, scripts de monitoreo y gestión de memoria.
Si bien es cierto que la IA no siempre entregó resultados listos para ejecutar (la infraestructura de Hive tiene matices muy específicos que requieren el toque humano), la experiencia fue invaluable. Lo que aprendí sobre la estructura de los nodos, el manejo de Docker y la respuesta de la API me dio una nueva perspectiva técnica que no tenía en 2022 cuando lanzamos el testigo por primera vez. Fue un curso intensivo que me permitió entender mucho mejor el "corazón" de lo que hoy estamos corriendo.
Un servidor más potente para una nueva etapa
Finalmente, decidimos no solo volver, sino volver mejor. En lugar de limitarnos al mínimo técnico, buscamos una infraestructura que superara las capacidades de nuestro servidor anterior. Hemos configurado un nodo robusto, con latencias mínimas y una capacidad de respuesta optimizada para asegurar que cada bloque firmado por @la-colmena cumpla con los estándares más altos de la red.
Actualmente, nuestro nodo está sincronizado, operando en la versión 1.28.3 y con los feeds de precios actualizados. Estamos listos para volver a ser parte de la tómbola de testigos de respaldo y, con el apoyo de todos ustedes, escalar posiciones en el ranking.

Artificial Intelligence as a Study Companion
A fascinating part of this return was the learning process. For many days, I tried to adapt the witness to optimized minimum requirements, and for this, I utilized Artificial Intelligence. I spent hours "debating" with AI about resource optimization, monitoring scripts, and memory management.
While it is true that the AI did not always deliver ready-to-execute results—as Hive's infrastructure has very specific nuances that require a human touch—the experience was invaluable. What I learned about node structure, Docker management, and API responses gave me a new technical perspective that I didn't have back in 2022 when we first launched the witness. It was an intensive course that allowed me to better understand the "heart" of what we are running today.
A More Powerful Server for a New Stage
Ultimately, we decided not only to return but to return better. Instead of limiting ourselves to the technical minimum, we sought an infrastructure that exceeds the capabilities of our previous server. We have configured a robust node with minimal latency and optimized responsiveness to ensure that every block signed by @la-colmena meets the highest network standards.
Currently, our node is synchronized, operating on version 1.28.3, and with updated price feeds. We are ready to rejoin the pool of backup witnesses and, with your support, climb the rankings.
