Why is it called the House of the Snake? Curious to find out? Check this out!

Happy Wednesday Hivers!

I often heard this story from my mother about this place. She, in turn, heard it from her grandmother. Since my mother was raised by her grandmother, she grew up hearing many stories from her. One of the stories that stayed with her was about the so-called House of the Snake. The name alone sounds frightening, doesn’t it?

We had been planning to visit this place, but it kept getting postponed because it was always raining in our area. And just recently, we finally pushed through.

The place is quite far from the highway, about a 10 to 15-minute hike. That day, we also took the opportunity to go hiking since we had been stuck at home, doing only indoor exercises because of the bad weather.

Every time my mother tells the story about the House of the Snake, I always mention that there might still be anaconda there. She would always reply that they’ve been gone for a long time.

This place is only about a 10-minute ride from our house, so it’s fairly close. According to the story passed down from her grandmother, when her grandmother was still a child, there was once an enormous snake in that area, said to be as big as an anaconda. Many boats were reportedly attacked by the snake and ended up sinking.

One day, there was a boat arrived already prepared, knowing what to do if they encountered the snake. They had brought electricity with them. When they reached the area, they attacked the snake first and electrocuted it. After that incident, there were no more reports of boats sinking or being attacked by the anaconda.

This place is surrounded by mangrove swamps, which makes it feel a bit frightening. When we arrived at the House of the Snake, it was completely quiet—there was no one else around except my mom and me.

I was the only one who went down, and I had to be very careful because the rocks were extremely sharp. Even a small mistake could cause you to slip and get injured.

It’s actually a nice place to hang out because it’s very windy and peaceful. However, it would be better to go with more people, since it feels a bit too quiet when it’s just the two of you.

My mom and I stayed at the House of the Snake for a short while. After we were done enjoying the view, we hiked back toward the highway. From what we observed, it looks like they might be developing the area because they’ve built a really nice road.

My mom and I really enjoyed the hike, and I finally got to visit the so-called House of the Snake. This is my entry for this week’s #WednesdayWalk, initiated by @tattoodjay.
