When You Plant, You Reap: An Age-Old Wisdom That Still Shapes Our Lives Today
Happy Wednesday Hivers!
In the Philippines, our elders have long reminded us that ‘when you plant, you will reap.’ However, as times become more modern, many young people are gradually losing interest in farming without realizing that growing our own food not only ensures it is free from harmful chemicals, but also helps us save significantly on daily expenses.

Have you remembered the sweet potatoes I planted in sacks last month and the spinach my mother planted in plastic bag? Now, they’ve grown so well.

Yesterday, we cooked fish tinola, and every time we prepare this dish, we always prefer to include fresh leafy vegetables and spices. Since our sweet potato leaves and spinach are already thriving, and we also have lemongrass and malunggay growing, we simply harvested everything from our backyard instead of buying from the market.

The only things we bought were fish, onions, ginger, and bell pepper but soon, since we’ve also planted ginger and bell pepper, we won’t even need to buy those anymore.

This is the beauty of being diligent in planting. Instead of constantly spending at the market, you can simply harvest what you need. It reduces expenses on vegetables and spices and allows you to save more for your daily needs or even allocate our budget to other priorities.

How about you? Have you also heard the saying, “When you plant, you will reap?

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
