Strolling Around the VISCA Campus
Happy Wednesday Hivers!
Visayas State University, also known as VISCA, is located in Baybay, Leyte. It is approximately a 45-minute bus ride from our place so it’s not really far. However, I hadn’t been there before until my mom and I decided to visit VISCA and simply stroll around the campus.

We often heard complaints from students that this school is very tiring because the buildings are far apart, and you have to walk uphill to reach the other buildings. Although we weren’t able to tour the entire campus because there were parts that required going uphill, and my mom already has difficulty climbing, I will only show you some of the areas that we managed to explore. So, let's start.
The campus is divided into two sections: the Lower Campus and the Upper Campus. It is known as an agricultural institution because the Upper Campus is situated in a mountainous area and is surrounded by rice fields. Although the campus is located along the highway, it still has extensive rice fields within its vicinity.
In the Upper Campus, there are two entrances. One entrance can be used by both vehicles and pedestrians, while the other entrance is intended exclusively for pedestrians.
One entrance is very large, and at the entrance, the twin towers can be seen, which are called the Obelisk.

The other entrance is small, and from there, you can see the rice fields. This is why it is considered an agricultural institution, as its land is intended for farming and cultivation.

The campus is very large, and from what we observed, it lacks proper maintenance. This may be because there are only a few people available to maintain such a vast area.

We continued walking, and we realized that the buildings are actually quite far apart. Although this part of the campus is not elevated, it can still be tiring if you have to walk it every day to transfer from one building to another. If you’re a student here, you’re guaranteed to get daily exercise.

As we continued walking, we saw various types of plants, and upon closer inspection, some of them were grafted. There were also many seedlings in a different area. If you enjoy gardening, you can buy seedlings here, but they are sold only according to a schedule.

You can also see many calamansi trees along the path, and some of them even have fruits. If you enjoy plants, you won’t get bored strolling around their campus, as there are so many different kinds of plants to see.

We were supposed to go to Molave Hill, where there is a large pool, but it’s uphill and my mom would have had a hard time climbing, so we decided to continue to the Lower Campus instead. The Lower Campus has the High School campus, hostels and apartments, and even a beach.
Somehow, their campuses are really nice because you can see both mountains and the beach. If you enjoy jogging, there’s plenty of space to run, and if you like hanging out or swimming, you can do that too, right within the campus itself.

Actually, we also visited their Horticulture Department, which I will post about separately. The last place we visited was their beach, where we spent a short time hanging out. The beach was nice, with plenty of benches to sit and relax. After that, we decided to head home because it started raining, it rains a lot in our area. Hopefully, you all enjoyed the stroll.

This is my entry for #Wednesdaywalk initiated by @tattoodjay.

As soon as you said "agricultural" I thought ahh it's going to be quite spread out XD My old uni was the same, I don't know if there is a horticulture side now but it was known for vet science and biology. The buildings were a bit spaced out but fortunately the courses that needed the space were all on one side with all the big fields for the horses.
The students that go to this place must be pretty fit if they have to climb a mountain to go to the upper part XD
