Date with our Mother

Happy Wednesday Hivers!

We rarely get to spend time with our mother because we are in Cebu while she is in Leyte. So whenever she comes to Cebu, we really make an effort to give her our time so we can be together, even just for a while.

When our younger sibling arrived from abroad, we asked her to come to Cebu. The day after she arrived, we took her out to SM Seaside, one of the biggest malls in Cebu and conveniently close to our place.

Since we still had errands to finish in the morning, it was already around noon by the time we reached the mall. When we arrived, we immediately looked for a restaurant so we could have lunch. It just so happened that Hukad was nearby. Actually, Hukad has long been one of our favorite restaurants because we really like the taste of their food.

After we finished lunch, we went straight to the SM Department Store. We were looking for clothes for our mother because my younger sibling wanted to buy her something. When we asked our mother what she wanted, she said she preferred a dress.

So I accompanied our mother to the women’s section so she could choose a dress. Fortunately, there were many dresses that fit her well. She decided on two dresses, but she was a bit worried that my younger sibling, who was the one paying, might find them too expensive.

After she chose the items she wanted to buy, we started looking for my other siblings so we could proceed to the payment counter. But since I was having a hard time finding them, I just contacted them through Messenger. I first made our mother sit down because she can’t stand for long anymore. I was really grateful that there was a new coffee shop inside the SM Department Store with seats available, perfect for her, especially since it’s more comfortable for senior citizens.

After my younger sibling paid for the items, we walked around for a bit, but we made sure to ask our mother if her knees could still manage. She said she was still okay, so we headed to the entertainment area. Since they had a big, colorful Christmas tree on display, my mother asked me to take a picture of her.

After walking around for a while, she asked if we could go home because her knees were starting to hurt. It really feels good to be able to spend time with our mother, even just for a short while. For parents, it already means a lot when their children make time for them, no matter how brief it may be. We asked her, ‘Are you happy?’ She smiled and said, ‘Thank you.’
