Backyard Blessings: Fresh Buko and Beautiful View

Happy Friday Hivers!

One of the people I’m truly grateful to, aside from God and my parents, is the person who planted these coconut trees. According to my mother, it was planted by the husband of her auntie. Because of him, we get to enjoy harvesting fresh coconuts and, most of all, enjoying them almost every month.

Although he has already passed away, the coconut tree he planted continues to remind us of him. My mother would often say that he was the one who planted it, yet we are the ones enjoying and eating its fruits now that he is gone.

This time, we decided to harvest the coconuts while they are still young. We do not usually use coconut milk, and we also have no plans of selling the fruits, so whenever fresh buko is available, we harvest it for our own consumption. Buko is quite expensive in the market, which is why we are very grateful that we no longer need to buy it because we already have it right in our backyard.

We only have two coconut trees in our backyard, and these two trees are actually different varieties. One of them is a dwarf coconut tree, and its fruits are orange in color. My mother and I did not expect that the dwarf coconut would also produce fruits with plenty of coconut meat inside.

This morning, the person we entrusted to harvest the coconuts came very early to do the job. When my mother and I arrived home from the mini farm, we were surprised to see so many fresh coconuts already placed on the table. We did not expect that such a large number of buko would be harvested.

I was excited to try the dwarf variety because it was my first time tasting it. It is sweeter compared to the other variety. Although both of them are delicious, this one is noticeably sweeter, especially its juice. Because of its sweetness, it may not be ideal for people with high blood sugar levels.

Actually, this morning, I skipped breakfast because I had already eaten so much coconut meat and drank a lot of buko juice. I was truly satisfied with my craving for buko since I had been wanting to eat fresh coconut for the past few days.

Moments like this make me truly appreciate the simple blessings in our backyard; fresh buko to enjoy, a peaceful view to admire, and the kind of province life that brings genuine happiness and contentment.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
