A Super Easy, Quick, and Hassle-Free Salad to Prepare

During Noche Buena in the Philippines, desserts especially salads, are almost always part of the table. From buko salad and fruit salad to other varieties, these desserts have become a familiar tradition in many households. It’s something we’ve grown accustomed to over the years. While not every family may serve one, most Filipinos make sure to include at least one type of salad in our Noche Buena celebration.

At our home, since there are only three of us, my mom and I decided to go with a super quick and easy salad for dessert. So, I made a fruit salad.

These days, fruits are really expensive, so instead of buying fresh ones, we just got canned mixed fruits. Aside from being more budget-friendly, we don’t have to keep slicing the fruits since they’re already pre-cut. Plus, a single can has more than enough to serve us.

We also bought nata de coco to add some color to our salad. It would have looked a bit plain if we only used the canned mixed fruits.

Since my brother isn’t really fond of sweets, my mom suggested mixing one can of condensed milk with just two cans of Nestlé cream so it wouldn’t be too sweet. Of course, since my mom is experienced in making this, I didn’t argue. She has a good sense of estimating the right balance, so it wouldn’t end up too sweet or too bland. She also mentioned that it should still be slightly sweet because once it’s chilled in the fridge, it tends to lose some of its sweetness.

After mixing everything, I had my mom taste it to see if the sweetness was just right. She said it was perfect. Once it was done, I put it in the fridge to chill.

If we want a quick and easy salad that doesn’t require too many ingredients, this is definitely the one we make. It can be ready in less than 20 minutes since all you really need to do is mix everything together.
