A Little Sneak Peek of Baybay City, Leyte

Happy Saturday Hivers!

Baybay City, Leyte is one of the most progressive cities in the province. Over the years, many establishments have grown and developed here. It is also the nearest city to our home, which makes it a convenient and important place for us.

Transportation here is not difficult since there are many buses and vans available for those who do not have their own vehicle. Baybay City is approximately a 45-minute bus ride from our home, although this can take as little as 30 minutes depending on the speed.

A few weeks ago, I went to Baybay City with my mother. We visited one of their tourist spots, Aya Hills, which I already posted about here. After our visit to Aya Hills, we headed straight to the heart of Baybay City because we simply wanted to see what it was like at night. I haven't visited Baybay City at night so we took that opportunity to witness Baybay City at night.

When you reach the very heart of Baybay City, the first thing that greets you is their large and historic church, the Immaculate Conception Church. Its bell tower easily captures people’s attention because of its height and striking presence.

Although the exterior looks old and preserves its historic charm, the interior has been renovated and now has a more modern feel. They intentionally kept the outer structure of the church to maintain its original and classic appearance.

Their plaza is very close to the church, actually, it is right beside it. You can easily see the plaza as soon as you are at the church. In the afternoon, the plaza becomes lively with many people hanging out, and most of them are students. They usually stay there because the place is spacious, breezy, and comfortable.

You can really tell that the plaza is well-maintained and thoughtfully designed. It gives the impression that the people managing the city truly value providing citizens with a pleasant public space where they can relax. In today’s stressful times, we all need a place where we can escape for a while, unwind, and recharge. That is exactly the kind of atmosphere you can feel when you spend time in the plaza of Baybay City.

Did you know that their plaza is also near the sea and has a baywalk? If you want to witness the sunset, you can simply sit along their very clean baywalk and enjoy the view. From there, you can see Camotes Island, the large island that is part of Cebu, making the scenery even more relaxing and beautiful, especially during sunset.

After strolling around the plaza and baywalk, we started to feel hungry. You do not have to worry, though, because there are many food stalls and restaurants along the baywalk, and most of them offer Filipino cuisine. At that time, my mother and I were craving barbecue, so we looked for a place that served barbecue.

What I liked about the food place was that it did not feel stuffy because it was an open space. While eating, you could relax and enjoy the view since it was located along the baywalk.

It was a great experience strolling around Baybay City as the evening approached. The day ended on a very relaxing note, and my mother and I truly felt refreshed and at ease.

I love visiting historical sites, especially churches. However, Leyte is too far from me. I'm hoping to travel out of Luzon someday. 😇

I’m sure there are also many old churches in the place where you are. You don’t necessarily have to travel far, since Luzon itself has a lot of historic and heritage sites worth visiting.

It’s really nice to explore beyond our comfort zone, but sometimes we become hesitant because of the fear we carry in our minds.
