Trump's Data Center Deal

avatar

President Trump dropped a surprise during his State of the Union speech on February 25, 2026. He talked about a new agreement with big tech companies to handle the huge energy needs of their data centers. It's all aimed at stopping everyday folks from seeing their electric bills skyrocket because of AI growth.

Basically, companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google etc have to figure out their own power supply. That might mean building their own plants right next to the data centers.

Trump said this would keep costs down for regular people, maybe even lower them in some areas. Energy Secretary mentioned that all the top players have signed on, but details are fuzzy right now.

With AI booming, power prices have been climbing in places like Virginia and Texas where these centers pop up. Trump wants tech to pay up instead of passing the buck to us. It's a nod to complaints from voters tired of higher bills.

Some experts wonder how it'll be enforced, and if it's just talk without real rules. A White House meeting on March 4 could clear things up, with execs showing up to seal the deal.
