Tesla's Delivery Slump Hits Hard

The electric car giant just released its numbers for the end of 2025, and they're not pretty. Deliveries dropped sharply, sparking worries about what's next for the company that's been leading the EV charge.

On January 2, 2026, from their headquarters in Austin, Texas, Tesla announced they delivered 418,227 vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2025. That's a 15.6% slide from the 495,570 they moved in the same period last year. For the whole year, they hit 1.64 million deliveries, down 8.6% from 2024's 1.79 million. Production was a bit higher at 434,358 for the quarter, but it still shows sales aren't keeping up.

That's the second year in a row of falling annual sales. Competition is heating up, especially from China's BYD, who snatched the top spot in battery electric vehicles with over 2.25 million sold in 2025.

Add in things like shifting tax incentives and slower demand for EVs overall, and it's a tough market. Tesla's stock took a hit right after the news, falling as investors reacted.

This feels like a wake-up call, maybe Tesla needs to shake things up with new models or pricing. Analysts are mixed; some see it as a step forward despite the miss, pointing to energy deployments that jumped. Elon Musk and his team have pulled off comebacks before.
