Ripple vs SEC Lawsuit - No Ruling Yet
As of late July 2025, the Ripple vs. SEC lawsuit has not reached a final ruling yet. Both Ripple and the SEC have appealed different parts of a previous court decision, causing delays because the ruling cannot take full effect until both parties withdraw their appeals.
Ripple appears ready to drop its cross-appeal, but the SEC is still undergoing an internal approval process required before formally withdrawing its appeal. This procedural delay is standard for cases reaching court, as confirmed by former SEC attorney Marc Fagel.
Recent rumors of additional SEC closed-door meetings to discuss Ripple’s appeal have been disproven, and the case is currently in the hands of the Court of Appeals, not the SEC commissioners. The judge’s initial decision was also requested to be reconsidered by the SEC but was denied.
The ongoing delay affects XRP’s regulatory clarity and has contributed to price volatility in the market. There is ongoing discussion about a potential settlement or resolution around the August 15, 2025 deadline when both parties are expected to submit a joint status report on appeals. However, experts caution that a definitive settlement or ruling depends on the appeals process and internal approvals rather than any fixed date.
