How to report a Bitcoin scam using Chainabuse and Scamwatch

To report a Bitcoin scam using Chainabuse and Scamwatch, follow these steps:

Reporting on Chainabuse

  1. Visit Chainabuse.com and click on "Report Your Case."

  2. Choose a scam category from the dropdown menu.

  3. Provide a detailed description of the scam, focusing on facts and avoiding personal information.

  4. Include technical details such as:

  • The scammer’s blockchain address and the blockchain it belongs to.

  • URLs or domain names involved.

  • Amount of money lost or demanded (in USD).

  • Transaction hashes (TxID) linked to the scam.

  • Additional info like the scammer’s IP address, token ID, or contact details.

  1. Upload any supporting screenshots or documents.

  2. Decide whether to make your report public (to warn others) or private (shared only with law enforcement partners). Your personal details remain confidential either way.

To find the scammer’s blockchain address, check your wallet’s transaction history or use blockchain explorers like Etherscan.

Reporting on Scamwatch

  1. Go to Scamwatch.gov.au and click "Report a Scam" (primarily for Australian residents or scams involving Australian entities).

  2. Fill out the form with:

  • The type of scam and when it occurred.

  • How the scammer contacted you.

  • A detailed description of the event.

  • Whether the scammer impersonated a known institution or individual.

  • Contact details, websites, or addresses used by the scammer.

  1. Indicate if the scam involved money, personal information, or cryptocurrency.

  2. Attach any relevant screenshots or documentation.

  3. Submit the report.

Scamwatch collects these reports to identify harmful scams affecting Australians and shares data trends with law enforcement and government agencies, though it does not investigate individual cases.

What Happens After Reporting?

  • Chainabuse makes reports searchable and public, helping others identify fraudulent wallet addresses or fake websites and assisting crypto companies and law enforcement in detecting and freezing assets linked to scams.

  • Scamwatch adds reports to a nationwide database monitored by the ACCC, supporting broader scam monitoring and prevention efforts.

  • Reporting does not guarantee recovery of lost funds but helps reduce future scams by raising awareness and linking related scam reports to expose larger fraud networks.

Using both platforms empowers users to contribute to the fight against crypto fraud and helps protect the wider community from Bitcoin scams.

It's me, @justmythoughts, an ordinary Hive user looking to make the most of the platform. I will appreciate your support. Follow me for more. Thanks, Gracias :)

Thank you for sharing this valuable information. As BTC and cryptocurrency as a whole is getting bigger each year, I think it is important to the thousands of people who are entering this new system to know how to detect or report fraud. Fraud. Because it is quite easy to actually scam someone into paying for something that they shouldn't be paying for the first place.
