Honda Keeps Factories Shut in China

Have you noticed how cars these days are basically computers on wheels? Well, that's biting Honda right now. The Japanese car giant just announced they're extending a shutdown at three of their plants in China because they can't get enough computer chips.
This latest delay, hitting right at the start of 2026, means more headaches for everyone from factory workers to folks waiting for a new ride. Honda said the production halt, which kicked off back in late 2025, will stretch another two weeks. These plants are in key spots in China, churning out popular models for the Asian market and beyond.
The chip shortage isn't new, it's been troubling the auto world since supply chains got tangled up from pandemics and trade snags. Honda's not alone; other makers like Toyota have faced similar stops.
Cars need these tiny semiconductors for everything. Without them, assembly lines grind to a halt. In China, where Honda sells a ton, this could slow down their recovery from a tough sales year. Factories in Taiwan and elsewhere make most chips, so any hiccup there ripples out fast. Honda's hoping to restart soon, but they're watching suppliers closely. All in all, this is a reminder that even big companies can get stalled by small parts.
