@hivewatchers : What's Plagiarism?

Hey folks, I wanted to chat about something that's been bugging me lately on Hive. You might've seen my recent posts getting hit with downvotes from @hivewatchers, and they're calling it out as plagiarism. Apparently, they think I'm just copying other people's stuff without giving credit. But honestly, that's not what's going on at all.

What I do is pretty straightforward: I spot some fresh news (etc), and then share it in different words. It's not like I'm lifting whole paragraphs from someone else's article – it's summarized and rephrased to make it different. Isn't that kinda how sharing info works?

I mean, think about it: every news site out there does this daily. CNN or BBC will report on a story from Reuters, or they'll remix what another outlet said with their spin. It's all about spreading the word without reinventing the wheel every time. If that was straight-up plagiarism, half the internet would be flagged!

And yeah, sure, it's important to give props where they're due. I like to link back to the original source if it's a direct pull, but when it's just news facts that are public anyway, rewording it feels fair game to me. Plagiarism would be if I pretended it was my original reporting or stole creative writing wholesale, but this is just curating timely info for our community.

Hive's all about decentralization and open sharing, right? Downvoting for this seems off-base, like they're gatekeeping what counts as "original" content too strictly. Maybe they mean well, trying to keep things authentic, but it ends up stifling folks who are just trying to keep everyone in the loop with real-world news.

If you're reading this and you've been in a similar spot, or if you think I'm off here, you are welcome to share your thoughts. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Let's keep the convo going and make Hive better for all of us.
Thanks

Hello @justmythoughts,

Allow me to give you my opinion.

I understand what you are saying and I believe in your intentions, but I also believe in the work of @hivewhatchers.

I understand your methodology for gathering information, but it is not working.

You see, @hivewhatchers use tools that detect plagiarism.

I did an experiment myself: I took this article of yours (just this one) and ran it through two different platforms. Both detected plagiarism.

Screenshot 2025-08-24 at 23.40.55.png

Screenshot 2025-08-25 at 00.06.15.png

And there you have it, my friend, there's not much room for debate. You need to change your strategy, I thing so.

I have a suggestion that might help you. When you write an article, before publishing it on HIVE, test it on a plagiarism detection platform. (You can find some free ones by searching the web).

If you see a plagiarism alert, you change it until it's OK.

Note, I believe in your work. Especially because your publications are very well accepted on Reddit and well remunerated through the @redditposh initiative.

Thanks for your suggestion.
I am glad that it is attracting some good outside traffic.

Hello.
If some useless online detection tool fails to detect their fraud, it does not mean that the user has a pass to publish their plagiarised content.

Please do not advise the user how to commit fraud. Your "advice" is very suspicious, so the account will be watched now and thoroughly investigated since you were caught plagiarising before.

"...but I also believe in the work of @hivewhatchers."

Do whatever you have to do.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would tag you and would be somehow contributing to any sort of fraud at the same time.

However, my complete ignorance on the subject deserves an apology.

I am grateful for your clarification.

As for the Margarita Cocktail, my account was only 10 days old. It was a rookie's mistake not to include the source. I changed with due apologies.

There was another one where I clarified your question: https://peakd.com/hive-132248/@cryptoreforma/porsche-911-turbo-s-reserved

Hive has not typically received news outlets well.
'THEY' say that we can get that information anywhere and that 'THEY' would prefer more personal content.
You can see this is the case by looking at trending.
Food posts and other 'very valuable' (/s) fluff.

Until there are enough of 'US' to overcome 'THEM' this is what we get.
So far, they have been very successful at running off the folks that got too much traction with the crowd, even those that didn't fall afoul of hw's standards.

And the funny thing is, my posts have been receiving some nice outside traffic (which could be valuable for Hive).

@antisocialist @justmythoughts

News outlets don't get paid for articles from some community's reward pool.

By refusing to provide sources, you automatically claimed that you are the author of the content and had the right to spin it.

Considering that you spin 4 tines per day with these short news, you evidently got hooked on the milking of the reward pool.

Additionally, you were caught spamming AI articles in October.

Since you joined in October 2024 (10 months ago), you have quickly acquired a reputation for 67 milking the pool with spun content.

Being rewarded by the reward pool is a privilege, not an entitlement.

Since then, you found AI content in my articles?
Talking of milking, should I show you people how they milk the reward pool with pretty ordinary stuff? I believe I am not even closer to them in terms of milking reward pool.
But as I am a small account so I am an easy target for you guys as you have been doing it for long.

If you find similar abuse - spinning plagiarism and found sources, report it in the form.

You seem to have a lot of entitlement and a lack of accountability.

Considering how many rewards this account has milked with spun content and its reputation, it is hardly a small account.

It seems that you had a very deep understanding of the ecosystem when you joined as "newbie" in October.
Extensive knowledge of communities, projects, proposals, how to milk the pool and get rewarded by Leo and Posh, and others. Right from the first post.
If you would like to appeal, please follow the instructions given in our comments for Discord.

Have you been ever held accountable for hurting users and Hive platform?

You won't get anywhere arguing with them, this only ends when 'our' side has enough stake to make them stop.

Not that I disagree with 'the rules'.
Earning rewards in the hive should be tough.

I do disagree with the top 20 accounts taking 50% of the rewards to give to the fluff they find agreeable.
That they don't support free speech, only speech they like, is very telling of the characters involved.

The real journalists were chased off long ago.
People with 100k+ active supporters.
Perhaps, if this wasn't the case we could retain those that went to the trouble of getting keys.
But, not today.

News outlets don't get paid for articles from some community's reward pool.

Right, they get paid by taxes(and the rich people that force taxes on us), and only serve the narrative.

Nothing to do with the entitlement to milk "free money" on Hive (exploitation of the reward pool on Hive).

Just my thoughts here (haha, related to account name) - so I understand the point of @hivewatchers here and would maybe try to limit number of posts a bit @justmythoughts - can not comment on AI stuff.

Your content is well received on Reddit where we get good traffic from as a result - this is good! Using news posts as background is good as long as you rephrase, add own words / thoughts / opinions and add link source which you often do as far as I read it - so sure you guys find a solution? Would be good though as I like the content of your posts a lot - apart from @taskmaster4450 you are the place to go to for interesting crypto news on Hive which reduces time to search around the internet.

Its the news, I guess the more news it is, the more it is good for Hive. As for milking, whats wrong when my posts get upvoted?

Hive is different - I like news here - i miss news here to be honest - maybe better to post news with link via snaps or other short content forms.

Since reddit initiative I realized that 95% content on Hive is circling around Hive which is of NO reelvance for anyone outside Hive - one major problem - we talk to much about Hive which makes it difficult to attract folks from the outside. #justsaying - but i am a small account only - no one cares what I think

Discussinf what is good or not on Hive will not lead to a conclusion - people have different opinions and fighting against HW makes no sense - I do not agree with them often, sometimes I do agree - your case is different, happy to help when you appeal to get out of their target area (not sure though they will listen though.

Re milking oh well - I could say something about milkers on the top but will refrein from that - currently no desire to get into flag wars again.

Dude - i get your feeling (I have that at the moment with job stuff and could k... nd that is much more major/important - but have to calm doen in that case).

Makes no sense to attack and discuss moving forward - an agreement should be the target - wars are never good, emotions are never good (am not role model as I am also trigger by that to be honest - but relax and wait)

The spinning plagiarism spam is copied from cointelegraph.com
I recommend going there for crypto news. You will actually get actual, original news there.

taskmaster4450 is the largest spammer on Hive, running multiple botnet spam accounts, spamming AI-generated content.

I understand your point indeed - but as many try to spend most of their time on Hive it would be good to have relevant news from the outside - if we do not want people to rephrase content from news sites in crypto why not integrating old school RSS feeds within a Hive News section?

Our problem is no good SEO, no good internal search (good I heard from @blocktrades some developments are around the corner), we mainly post about our own ecosystem - so we jerk each other ab out Hive only instead of providing content reelvant for potential new users (but a different topic :-)!).

I recommend going there for crypto news.

Just look at this mentality. We are talking about bringing traffic to Hive and he is telling you to go there for crypto news.

It looks like these guys are not interested in bringing traffic to Hive.

You bring spam, plagiarism, and milking of the reward pool on Hive.
Posting on Reddit is not an excuse to abuse Hive.
Reddit does not pay you a cent for posting there.
Create original content on Hive, and the problem will be solved.

And also, this is not the right way to do things, you should first warn users about how are they violating the rules/ policies whatever, make it at least three warnings and if they don't follow, put them in the banned list for 3 months (go them some time to think and correct their mistakes).

You were warned in 2024. You are not a newbie to be guided.
Also, you are not a new user, and it seems that you weren't when you joined Hive in 2024.

i have been put on the blacklist for making a comment. some people here take it on themselves to police this platform in a way they see fit.

hive is not about decentralisation nor free speech, sharing your mind nor having your own blog in a way you see fit. if you want that you may want to come over to blurt where the downvote button does not exist.

www.blurt.blog

see this comment torpedoed by some of the control freaks on hive. it is a pity, i always liked this place. until i opened my mouth and said what i really think, that alternatives like blurt exist, and i got banned for it ahaha

i am not interested in joining a discord server, thanks :)

the way i see it the more people on hive know about the rotten edifice of this once promising platform the better. no harm of it all being on-chain. as much as i hate to say it, hive is in the hands of a few psychos who wield their stake like they own this place... because frankly they do.
they censor who they please and decimate your reputation and all future payouts on a whim with bullshit justifications like schoolyard bullies in 4th grade.

you are welcome on blurt anytime, let me know if you need any help. blurt's price is low but its spirit is what i always looked for in steem and hive over the 7 years i have been here
