Australian Miner Expects Supplying The US Critical Minerals Reserve

An Australian company called Sunrise Energy Metals is stepping up, with its boss saying they'll probably help stock the new US reserve of critical minerals. It's all about making sure tech and defense industries don't run short. The firm, based in Australia, is run by CEO Sam Riggall. They're working on the Syerston scandium mine out in New South Wales.

This project received a major boost from mining entrepreneur Robert Friedland, who has strongly endorsed it. Scandium's one of those rare elements used in high-tech stuff like airplanes and gadgets. Last September, they snagged a letter of interest for 67 million dollars from the US Export-Import Bank, which got investors excited.

Now, the US is planning this huge 12 billion dollar reserve to protect against supply hiccups. Riggall was in Washington recently, chatting ahead of a big global minerals meeting on February 4, 2026. Australia's Resources Minister is all in, saying her country wants to lead the way in providing these essentials.

This could tighten the bond between the US and Australia on resources, helping both sides build a stronger, more reliable chain for the future.
