Amazon's Big Shake-Up: More Job Cuts

Amazon is getting ready to let go of thousands more employees, right on the heels of some major changes last year. It's a tough spot for a lot of folks, and it makes one wonder about the future of work in big companies like this. Back in October 2025, Amazon slashed about 14,000 corporate positions, which was already a big deal.
Now, sources say another round could start as early as next week, aiming for a similar number to hit a total of around 30,000 cuts by mid-2026. That's the largest in the company's history, beating out the 27,000 they trimmed in 2022.
These aren't warehouse gigs, the focus is on office roles in places like Seattle, where Amazon is headquartered, but it ripples out globally. At first, it seemed tied to artificial intelligence speeding things up and changing how things get done. But CEO Andy Jassy stepped in to say it's more about cutting red tape and too many management layers to make the place feel nimbler, like a startup again.
Companies grow huge and sometimes lose that quick edge. Still, it's rough when real people pay the price. The cuts are hitting teams in Amazon Web Services, HR etc.
On X, people are buzzing about it, with some saying it's pushing employees to look elsewhere, especially after the five-day office mandate kicked in this year. And interestingly, while jobs shrink in the US, there's talk of more hiring in spots like India for tech roles.
This shows how fast tech is evolving. It might open doors for new ways of working, but right now, it's a reminder to keep skills sharp in this evolving job market.
