The Things We Do for Money
I saw a tweet on (X) Twitter from a guy who said he was tired of life and was going to end it all. He also uploaded a picture alongside this tweet, and I noticed something on his face that made me think he had been crying; despite the fact that the photo was taken from a decent apartment, he appeared healthy and calm. I checked his previous tweets, and there was no history of angst or anything indicating he was depressed.
On Most Social Space, You Only See What Others Want You To
Do not get me wrong: these observations do not tell the entire story. When it comes to the social space, people only show you what they want you to see, and you can not tell the truth about their situation by reading what they have written or studying their facial expression.
I noticed that more than half of the responses he received asked him to give them his belongings, which included chairs, clothes, and anything else that made him comfortable.
Others mocked him, claiming he was too attractive and healthy to be considering suicide. There were a few sensitive tweets from people who probably cared if he was genuine, while others prayed for him and asked him to reconsider. I also noticed that this was the one tweet he received the most impressions on (as far as I could tell), and everything I saw made it difficult to determine whether this guy was serious or joking.
Whether he was joking or not, I would still leave him a word of encouragement, especially if he turned out to be serious. It was better that it was fake and he did not commit suicide than that it was real and people ignored him. However, I believe that anything is possible in the social space.
X is The New Farmland
People now upload nude and suggestive photos to get impressions, and they engage in farming schemes, fake giveaways, and other forms of monetization. I believe Elon Musk is aware of this; he has previously spoken about stopping farming schemes and banning accounts that engage in this behavior, but to be honest, X has become a haven for more and more fakery and aggrandizing content in order to make money.
Every day, I see tweets of people talking and sharing sex pictures, leaking DMs of sexual activities, and saying all kinds of things. We have more accounts that want to serve people sexual content, and these guys farm millions of impressions, including sex sells, scandals and aggrandizement, politics, LGBTQ stuff, and more sex stuffs. For someone who is primarily interested in cryptocurrency content, I see more sex content.
It's Like A Reddit Orgy
People discuss their favorite sexual positions and various forms of perversion. It feels like a Reddit 18+ room. I would not be surprised if that guy tweeted that for content purposes, people will do anything for money and draw no boundaries. We have people who fake their deaths to prolong their fate; in the last six years, we have seen two or more Nigerian celebrities fake their deaths in order to resurrect their careers, only for the media to discover it was all a hoax.
It is likely that these pranks and jokes lead people to underestimate those who are truly depressed or suicidal. Because we know we can do anything to be relevant or make money, people are unsure about what is real and what is not.
Way To Go Elon
You built your dream social media
Elon Musk's monetization pattern and style have exacerbated these human opportunistic tendencies for money, fame, and relevance, which is the reality of the new web2. I have been depressed, and to be honest, the internet and web2 are not the places to discuss it. People use things like this as a publicity stunt to promote a movie, a song, or even gain followers for their accounts.
Web2 Is Not A Place To Talk Depression
I used to be very active on web2, but at the start of my depressive episodes, I stayed away for seven months, and it is probably one of the worst places to talk about depression and suicide.
The space is saturated with depression-related posts and videos looking to make money, which is another advantage of a site like Hive. You do not need to talk about depression to make a few bucks; in fact, being honest about your life is preferable, because there is no way to lie on the chain without getting caught.

People keep it hidden as long as it is possible but there's that breaking point when you just can't take it anymore.
I believe similar thing happened in his case that made him post that on social media and Good thing about social media is people give hope, share blessings and expect good for others while few always criticise.
Btw, X is more like dead now, you open a tweet and all you see in replies is some bots shilling scams/memes/nudity, comments non related to topic. I rarely use x.
It's worse on X now, people have lost self respect, they have no limits.. from rasicm to all that nudity just for elon bucks.
You're completely right, I used to think it's just me, but X has completely become a place for nudity and all form of vulgar discussions, and I feel that because of this farming, a lot of people are now trying to appeal to sexual audience to get money.
I can relate, I've been depressed and I don't even think I've recovered because each day it just hits me. It's probably true that guy is going through something, but the way people fakes things online, it makes you wonder what's real and what's not.
People no longer have shame. People can do anything for money and that’s why we hear that some people use their fellow human for money ritual
Indeed, people can go far for money..
It's amazing how far people will go for money. It really shows what we value in society. Sometimes, I wonder if we're losing touch with what truly matters. Thanks for making me think about this brother
Yes, people can certainly do a lot because of money.
This is quite a situation
Depression and suicide are not to be talked about lightly with random people, talk about it with trustworthy people, family or friends. Show people your weakness and they will devour you!
Web3 isn't the game-changer here, it's the same shit, only the surface changes, people will be people, keep your shit private!
IMHO
Peace :)
Crazy things are happening and sometimes I pause to wonder how we all got to this point.
This was a fantastic post, thanks for sharing Jose🌸
Exactly, crazy things are happening
Sensationalism is a problem that started with tabloids and is now in social media. I wanted to say everybody, but that's a generalization. Many people on social media use it to grab attention, and when they use serious matters to attract it (like the announcement of a suicide), this belittles the real cries for help in the ocean of fakenes.
The people involved are so much that it even creates the impression that it's almost everyone. I mean, it's like you can see it everywhere you turn and you cannot even apply your perceptive filters to see what's truly fake and what's not.
And that is really scary, to be honest. That's why manipulations thrive and people can be totally disoriented and at a mercy of good manipulators with an agenda.
That's too bad the X has turned into that. I avoid it to be honest. If you're depressed go get help, social media like the former Twitter isn't where to go. Chances are he was doing it to gain followers or up his impressions, what a waste of time. I like it here too, you have a bad day you can mention it but don't count on sympathy to make you money...
How are you doing?
That's one thing about the social media space, the level of fakness is far too much. You don't know what's real anymore, someone can be in such a state and people be joking about it,
Everyday people all look good and nice by it deep down they're goingthrough hell, I pray he finds a comfort and reason to live on, cause suicide should never be an option...
I think being terminally online is a bad thing and I agree that it degrades people's mental health quite a bit. It's kind of crazy to see how Twitter degraded after they started paying people as everyone wants to make money.
Exactly, Twitter turned onto somewhere and something entirely different after the money, everyone just wants a cache of the money.
Hey bro, that was a good battle (we just met in splinterlands) lol
Solid post my man, glad to see youre beastin. Im due for a post again.
