To the girl who feels like you've been "waiting forever"

I see you. And I am like you. It's hard, is it not? To feel like you're stuck - and you are not even sure whether your story is ever getting any better. Sure, half of your friends are married or are engaged or have found their partners or are having babies or are raising families or are travelling the world or are starting their own businesses or are earning new titles after commas on their names or are pursuing their dreams boldly or are buying out companies or are chasing their wild dreams. Maybe not even half of your friends - maybe most. Or maybe some.
And you feel like you do not even measure up. "What has my life come to?" And then goes the spiral of self-pity, loathing, anger, that piles unto doubts, fears, disappointments, hatred and ultimately into losing hope.
It is a hard pill to swallow. You feel like "this" is rock bottom, and there's no going up. You'll go into life "dragging" yourself without coming up for air. And soon enough you'll feel drowned by the weight of your life's sorrows. It seems like an end. What is the point, you ask yourself.
Dear one, you have got to get over yourself. You are not a failure. Why do you measure yourself by the standards of this world? And why are you so hard on yourself - you are your own worst critic! If you compare yourself to the hundreds of lives around you whom you think "are having the best lives", you will always end up feeling discouraged. Why? Because you are not in charge of looking at others' lives from your "narrow-minded" point-of-view and have it as a "measuring stick" to gauge how you are living yours. People's "highlight reels" are a tiny tidbit of a larger picture you know nothing about. While these "highlights" may look paper-good on the outside, you do not know the stories weaving behind those successes.
Other people have their own paths to walk on - and so should you. You run your own race. Keep running (or walking) there. Straight ahead. When other people have "wins", cheer on and celebrate. You can do so - other people's successes do not, and never will, diminish or rob you of yours. There are so many blessings on that path you are taking, and it is sad that you cannot even recognize them since you have been so focused on other people's paths - your envy will rob you of your joy. You miss out on so much goodness!
I do not know about you, but for sure you are blessed beyond measure. Let's start with the air in your lungs - breathing air, for free. No devices attached to you. And how about your heart! How this tiny bit pumps blood throughout your body. And your body - whole and healthy and allowing you to experience life! If you are reading this, you probably have internet and a smart phone - not everyone on Earth has the privilege you have. I can go on and on, but you get the point.
When you start looking within, you realize that you have so much going on for you that you have to be grateful for! You just need the intentionality to do so.
Do not look around - when you start comparing your life to others' you will either become bitter or vain, as what the 'Desiderata' tells us, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than ourselves. But when you start looking within, and focusing on your own chartered path, and finding God in the midst of life's chaos, you find it easy to be content, because you will be filled with so much gratitude that your life will be an overflow of grace - God's grace. You will then be a magnet of love. And with love comes hope. And life? It will never be the same again.
There is so much hope, dear one. Look up. In the sky above - there. There you'll find your answer. Just like I did. I may be waiting now. But my waiting has never been sweeter. When you learn that this Earth is nothing but a "temporary place", your perspective will change. And so does your heart. You learn to surrender. And to trust that whatever happens, God will work it out for good. As He did hundreds of thousands of years ago. As He is doing now. As He will continue to do so until the Earth will cease.
Look up, dear one. Find your answer. He's been waiting, as you have been.
- a letter I wrote to all those ladies out there. Hope this encourages you🙏✨
