The art and heart of giving on the Hive Blockchain

Ever heard the phrase 'give and take'? Or perhaps the many people who give and expect returns for it. Society is fast becoming such that we give with the mindset of receiving in return. The rich often give gifts to others and retaliate for such gestures with gifts. The less privileged rarely even have enough for themselves to consider giving out. And yes, some gifts are given to the rich by the less privileged in order to buy their favors. Many and different reasons exist why we give gifts, but the one that I consider most valuable is giving to someone who cannot repay you without expecting anything in return.

Till tomorrow, I remain grateful to my onboarder for the gift of Hive. She opened my eyes and mind to a wider range of opportunities, such as friends and communities. I still wonder what I could repay her with, but all in all, I'm grateful. In regards to @terganftp to know good causes on Hive one can help out with, I will attempt to highlight a few I consider vital.

Every community is owned by a human at least, or motivated by people of like minds. For every community, there is a Hivians, and perhaps one who aims to achieve more than just gathering rewards. A community is an easier means to achieve greater goals on Hive compared to a single individual. Trust is better built in communities than per individual. My little time has seen laudable projects on Hive that're worth commending. I agree that we cannot help everyone as wants and needs remain unlimited in the face of limited resources. The first step is to identify those that would benefit the most from giving and, probably, solve issues beyond the immediate.

Unfortunately, society is bewildered by many untruthful individuals who paint false scenarios to gain attention or sympathy. Identifying Hivers who are struggling to fend for or start businesses that would lift them out of poverty is an example of people who should receive help. I do not support laziness, and I believe anyone who manages to survive on Hive beyond six months without cutting corners or committing atrocities has the mind to earn legitimately. You will agree with me that, no matter how some people try, life does not just work as planned. And there are those people who have a business mindset but are short on resources (financial or material) and would require only a little push to break off the edge. So, if I see someone who is struggling and has prospects to be industrious, I will gladly throw my weight behind them. Imagine helping an individual thrive in a business where he ends up employing others and feeding his family. Well, perhaps something to hold him back and commit to the Hive Blockchain would also be needed.

Now, beyond the scope of the individual, giving to a community of people is another blessed way of giving. I have seen the @hiveghana community erect boreholes in various communities, and this, to me, is a fantastic way of giving through Hive. Other projects like power, food, and even water could be looked into. If any group of people choose to embark on such laudable projects, they should be given maximum support. And, certainly, if these projects can be taught to earn for themselves as a form of self-equipment,.

Curation and upvoting on Hive is one way of giving. Here, quality contents are rewarded for their efforts and encouraged to do more. Almost everyone is here for the rewards, and only a few enjoy the company of community interactions. I have seen many people do lots of engagements and interactions all in the name of getting upvotes and curation. I do not have the energy to partake in those hurdles. I believe that with baseline engagement and abiding by the rules set, getting upvotes and curation should not be a Herculean. There was a time I wanted to write, 'If I were a whale on Hive', at least genuine and quality contents would get rewarded.

How much should I give out? I would not go all out when giving. Personally, I do not believe in being an angel in anybody's situation. Once I realize a need needs to be met, I try to weigh other sources of help for the individual and consider alternatives before giving. There is a tendency for the recipient to take the gift for granted and come back knocking soon enough. I try to give a substantial amount but not all, expecting the recipient to source from others (hopefully he does not lavish the little amount sent).

Generally, giving should be to those who genuinely deserve it and, hopefully, would be better off with the little given.

Great post and I've asked the #HivePakistan curator to upvote it. I still don't know actual project on HIVE for me to donate to so I think I'll have to go looking (sigh...more work) but eventually I will find them:)

Thanks for your participation. I really does mean a lot to me.

Engagement on the hive blockchain is one way we also give to the blockchain, I don't do it much but I try my best.
