Splinterlands: Venari Marksrat's martyr works out well in Explosive Weaponry
Splinterlands is a complex game and it allows for various different cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various different rulesets applied and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Venari Marksrat.
Featured cards
Venari Marksrat is a life monster that costs 3 mana. It starts with martyr. It learns snare at level 4 and shatter at level 8. This is a great card to use because martyr can be multi-purpose. Sometimes I use it to buff bloodlust monsters and other times to buff up my tanks or damage dealers.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Explosive Weaponry and Going the Distance. This means that only ranged monsters can be used, and all monsters gain the blast ability. There is also 37 mana available, and I can use life or dragon splinter splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Drake of Arnak | 4 | Summoner | +1 Armor |
Zyvax Vuul | 8 | 1st | Close Range and Flying |
Venari Marksrat | 3 | 2nd | Martyr |
Hero of Beyond | 7 | 3rd | Close Range |
Lone Boatman | 5 | 4th | Snipe |
Luceheim Demon | 7 | 5th | Snipe |
Venari Crystalsmith | 4 | 6th | Tank heal |
Total Mana: | 38 |
I use Drake of Arnak as my summoner for the +1 armor. Zyvax Vuul is my tank with flying, close range, and recharge. This will let it dodge some hits and also deal some damage if it survives long enough. After that is Venari Marksrat with martyr, and another close range monster after. This 2nd close range monster is my backup tank so my backline can survive long enough to deal more damage. I have two snipe monsters after with a tank heal in my last spot.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. I have two snipe monsters and my opponent only has one close range monster. This means that my opponent will start lacking damage once I kill off a few monsters. The only worry is that last monster with double strike.
Round 3
My opponent has lost 3 monsters while I have only lost 2. My backup tank is almost dead, but at this point, I don't think there is much my opponent can do against me. Martyr did help as it added an armor back on both of my close range tanks and that delayed a few hits from hitting the rest of my backline.
I ended up winning this match later that round, just as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time played out exactly how I thought it would. With the ruleset, I thought that snipe monsters would work well as damage dealers, while close range monsters worked well as tanks. Between my tanks was my martyr monster, and that ended up helping me as it buffed up my tanks. My opponent may have had more damage, but the armor from my summoner just made martyr more effective.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
