Splinterlands: Thanalorian Scion is great in Equal Opportunity

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Thanalorian Scion.

Thanalorian Scion is a water splinter that costs 5 mana. This splinter starts with low health and speed, but it has high armor. It starts off with corrosive ward and void armor. It learns true strike at level 5. As it levels up, the speed and health never change, but that void armor ability is what makes this card great. At level 11, it's the equivalent of 11 health so long as the opponent does not have the shatter ability, even if the opponent is using magic monsters. I don't think the true strike does much on a magic monster, but I guess it might be useful if the opponent has phase.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Equal Opportunity. This means that monsters gain the opportunity ability. There is also 33 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for fire and life.

It's an interesting ruleset where monsters will target the lowest health monsters first. You have to consider what your lineup will be, otherwise your monsters will die fast.

My summoner is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. My tank is Halfling Refugee. Thanalorian Scion is my backup tank with void armor. After this is Saltwater Mage with sneak. Daigendark Surveyor and Conclave Artificer are monsters without any attack, but Daarg Deadblast has weapons training.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while the rest of my lineup deals damage. Thanalorian Scion is a monster with just 1 health, so it will be target from my opponent. With this, my opponent will focus on Scion. The rest of my magic monsters can deal damage.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent does have 2 taunt monsters, but I have way more damage, and it will take a few turns for my opponent to kill Scion.

Round 2

round 2.png
A round later, my opponent has lost one taunt monster and the second is almost dead. I haven't lost any monsters yet, and my magic monsters can't miss either.

I won that match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. I played a strong lineup where Thanalorian Scion tanked the damage from the ruleset. The rest of my magic monsters demolished my opponent and there wasn't much my opponent could do.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ ALERT ⚠️⚠️⚠️

HIVE coin is currently at a critically low liquidity. It is strongly suggested to withdraw your funds while you still can.

This one is great, lot of shield for a cheap mana, can be a sort of tank

Since Equal Opportunity forces everyone to target the lowest health, the Scion is basically a lightning rod.

Exactly. It's the perfect card to use against my opponent.

The shield of Thanalorian Scion at level 1 is already overwhelming

I think this card would be very disadvantageous if the Unprotected ruleset is present in the match

If it was unprotecteed, I wouldn't use this card.
