Splinterlands: Spellmonger is a useful card in Rise of the Commons and Anemic

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Spellmonger.

Featured cards

Spellmonger is a neutral splinter that costs 4 mana. This splinter starts with the thorns and untrainable ability. This card can't be weapon-trained, so it can be limited in some cases. I do use this card from time to time in Frontier because it could be useful in some rulesets/lineups.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Anemic and Rise of the Commons. This means that all monsters have a maximum of 4 health and only common/rare cards can be used. There is also 28 mana available, and I can use every splinter except earth and dragon.

Chaos Furybringer62ndReach

Total Mana:28

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Barthalamas for the +1 speed. Frankarsgard is my tank. After that is Chaos Furybringer as my backup tank with reach. Finally, I have a sneak monster with Spellmonger as my last monster. This setup gives me decent front line focused damage, and the Spellmonger will attract any sneak/opportunity monsters.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent's backlin will target spellmonger, and my frontline damage is enough to overcome the heal over time.

Round 2

round 2.png
A round later, I have lost my armor, but my opponent has damage on his backline. Given my speed, my opponent will lose his heal tank from my frontline damage, and the thorns will clear most of the backline.

I won the match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time did go exactly as planned. Spellmonger was such an amazing card as it dealt with most of the backline damage just through thorns. The rest was easily cleaned up by the rest of my monsters. It took advantage of that anemic ruleset, and the rise of the commons limited my opponent's choices in Frontier.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

The card with the Thorn at the last place took out two of your opponents card which was great, considering it did it by only defending. Great game.
