Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Thanalorian Scion is great in magic only fights
Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Thanalorian Scion.
Featured cards
Thanalorian Scion is a water splinter that costs 5 mana. This splinter starts with low health and speed, but it has high armor. It starts off with corrosive ward and void armor. It learns true strike at level 5. As it levels up, the speed and health never change, but that void armor ability is what makes this card great. At level 1, it's the equivalent of 11 health so long as the opponent does not have the shatter ability, even if the opponent is using magic monsters.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Wands Out, Born Again, and Heavy Metal. This means that only magic monsters can be used, and all monsters gain the rebirth ability. I can use water, earth, or death splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 magic |
Thanalorian Scion | 5 | 1st | Void Armor |
Anasth Soothsayer | 6 | 2nd | Cleanse |
Argarux Magus | 3 | 3rd | Scattershot |
Total Mana: | 20 |
I use Marlai Singariel as my summoner because it reduces my enemies magic by 1. Thanalorian Scion is my tank due to the void armor. Then I have two magic monsters to make the most of my mana. One of them has cleanse and the other has scattershot.
My strategy is to tank with Thanalorian Scion while the rest of my lineup focuses on dealing damage. I like that rebirth in the ruleset, as it essentially gives Thanalorian Scion 22 health before it goes down. The rest of my damage dealers will just deal damage, but I threw in Scattershot because I think it could potentially kill some of the backline and make things easier for me. The cleanse can help Scion, but I am not sure if my opponent has any debuffs on his side yet.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. Thanalorian Scion is such a great tank, and my opponent can only attack the frontmost monster. So this means that I have free rein to deal damage against my opponent without worrying too much. My opponent's monsters don't have too much health, but that 2nd monster might take a while because I am not sure if it can resurrect twice.
Round 3
I fast-forwarded to round 3 because I didn't think it was that interesting to see me and my opponent trade blows. As it stands, my opponent has lost two monsters while I have only lost 1. I think my opponent made the wrong choice by having a monster with electrify because it killed off his backline monster for me. There is nothing my opponent can do to win at this point because I have more damage than him, and my Scion hasn't used his rebirth yet.
I ended up winning a few rounds as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected. My choice of using Thanalorian Scion as my tank was the right choice. It tanked so many of my opponent's hits and let my damage go all out in terms of damage. There wasn't much my opponent could do as he could only attack my tank. Void armor and the rebirth from the ruleset works out well, and it worked especially well in this fight where we could only use magic monsters.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Magic only maybe you mean in the title 😅 and yea it is
Fixed. I guess I wasn't paying attention when I wrote the title the first time
Dominant victory!
I miss the battles
The way you have optimized tanking and damage using Void Armor and Rebirth strategy here clearly shows how important choosing the right strategy is. Thank you for sharing this so beautifully.
Yea. The combination of Void Armor and Rebirth is pretty amazing.
Yes my friend 🥰
Thanalorian Scion really helps in that ruleset. Void Armor plus the rebirth bonus makes it such a difficult wall to break through, especially when the opponent only has magic damage to rely on.
Yea. Scion is a tough monster to fight against even when its not magic only.
You've got the experience for sure
