Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Thanalorian Scion in Equalizer is amazing
Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Thanalorian Scion.
Featured cards
Thanalorian Scion is a water splinter that costs 5 mana. This splinter starts with low health and speed, but it has high armor. It starts off with corrosive ward and void armor. It learns true strike at level 5. As it levels up, the speed and health never change, but that void armor ability is what makes this card great. At level 11, it's the equivalent of 11 health so long as the opponent does not have the shatter ability, even if the opponent is using magic monsters.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The ruleset this time is Equalizer and Heavy Metal. This means that only armored monsters can be used, and all monsters start off with the same health. There is also 26 mana available, and I can any splinter.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Marlai Singariel | 6 | Summoner | +1 Magic damage |
Chaos Rear Guard | 4 | 1st | Shield |
Thanalorian Scion | 5 | 2nd | Void Armor and Corrosive Ward |
Grimbardun Smith | 6 | 3rd | Immunity |
Moxian Rebel | 4 | 4th | Weapons Training |
Total Mana: | 25 |
I use Marlai Singariel as my summoner because it gives +1 magic damage to my entire lineup. Chaos Rear Guard is my first tank with shield to reduce physical damage. Thanalorian Scion for the obvious reasons that I stated above as my second monster. After that is Grimbardun Smith with immunity and Moxian Rebel with weapons training to give Grimbardun some magic damage.
My strategy is to outlast my opponent while my magic monsters in the back wipe out my opponent. I didn't have too many choices, as only armored units can be used. I went with the weapons training monster because I thought that having some monster with armor would take advantage of the ruleset. In fact, this ruleset Thanalorian Scion is my 2nd monster as a tank due to equalizer. This removed the health disadvantage and makes it a potent card to use.
Round 1
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. My opponent's tank might be an issue normally, but my lineup is focused on magic, so it will go down without any issues. The rest of the monsters will just take some time as well. My opponent's last monster can't be weapons trained, so I guess it is there for sneak monsters, but I am not using any. I also have a magic damage buff from my summoner, and my opponent has none.
Round 3
My opponent lost two monster and I have lost one. There is no chance for my opponent anymore in this fight due to my damage advantage.
I ended up winning this match a few rounds later as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did play out as I expected. I used a low mana tank with shield to deal with melee or ranged monsters, then used Thanalorian Scion as my backup tank. With the ruleset, Thanalorian Scion was a great tank, but my opponent didn't have enough damage to let me show it. I think my opponent just lacked the damage to kill me, and while my magic monsters weren't very powerful, my summoner worked well to increase their damage. I think my lineup would have been powerful regardless, but I didn't have that many strong magic monsters available to me. It was still enough, though, for this match.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

That card with void armour is a very great card, especially in equalizer Ruleset lol. I've seen it countless of times. Good win, with that weapon's training
Yea. It's amazing in this ruleset. I am glad that I noticed and used it.
this card is great, when you can combo with water/life summoner and hit with this op armor :D
I'll have to give it a try later, but it might be hard to give up the increased magic damage.
you will hit for 10+ from armor try with opportunity ruleset :D
